While the 1920’s and 1950’s have many things in common, there are also a lot of differences. While in the 1920’s America was in isolationism to try and avoid the war, they were also providing more job opportunities for women. While also facing the issue of prohibition that started in 1920. In the duration of the 1950’s America was involved in many world affairs, and caused women to lose or quit their jobs due to veterans coming home and the political trend being a stay - at - home mother. Civil rights movements are also going on during this time period. Starting because one country wanted to show the other that they were a higher world power after World War II. Although no one came to harm during this war, it was a major arms race that other countries noticed and came behind following the actions of the main countries. “ Public diplomacy was an effective cold war weapon.” said by Antony Blinken. With the fact that there were no actual people fighting, the men who were at war returned home, causing the women to either lose or quit their job and become stay at home mothers . Statistics say only 10% of mothers worked in 1950, and only 30% of overall women worked,along with womens work labor dropping. In the 1920’s it was the radio, people enjoyed listening to the news, music, books, and many other things. In the 1950's it was the television, it went from people listening to everything to watching and listening to everything. This made the cold and rainy days where you couldn't go outside much more enjoyable and easier. While also creating many more jobs since it was the first time people were seeing other people on tv and creating household names. Over 12 million radios were bought in the 1920’s . Along with the advancements in technology, there were also new rules set into place such as the reason immigration was gradually increasing. As the government did not agree with the large amounts of people coming into the country, this caused them to put restrictions in place to restrict the amount of people entering the country that were not americans. This left the immigration percentage at 13.4% and decreasing about 1% every 10 years till 1971. As the government should restrict the amount of immigrants they could not restrict the amount of colored people in the country since they were already there.
