Harper Lee's Novel To Kill a Mockingbird and Robert Mulligans film adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird have many similarities and differences in the eyes of many book lovers. The trial was a crucial scene in the movie that displayed strong, well-devised, and included many exceptional actors. On the contrary, some important moments, people, and lessons in the book were removed from the movie that created a different meaning to the whole story. Calpurnia and Dolphus Raymond were two main characters in the novel that taught valuable lessons to not only Jem and Scout, but to readers across the world. There are many similarities between the movie and book versions of The Giver. One of the biggest similarities is how Jonas’s view of the Community changes throughout the plot. In the book, as Jonas receives memories about the past, he begins to hate the Community and his life in it. He tries to share memories with his friends and family and wants things to change. The cliffhanger ending is more powerful because we are left to wonder Jonas and Gabriel’s fate and we don’t have anything decided for us. In chapter 23 Lowry writes, “For the first time he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people signing”(179). Since Jonas had never heard music before it makes us wonder how he knows what it is. He could be dead and be hearing music or he could be having a memory from the Giver but we don’t really know.
If anyone were to treat black people the way they were treated in this book, they’d be looked down on and shamed. Just like in today's society and the society back then, the book To Kill a Mockingbird and the movie have many similarities and differences. From what I understand after reading your essay, the movie differs quite a bit in many places, with the similarities being very minimal. I think the whole essay was strong, well organized and thought out. The summary provided details of the differences of scenes, with solid examples scene by scene.
