Ill try to compare and contrast the two since the movie does not depict the story exactly as how the novel does. Similarities There were still some similarities in the film that tied back to the book. One of the main ones is when Nick walks to Gatsby’s backyard and finds him standing at the edge of his dock reaching out to what was a green light.
The movie version of The Great Gatsby by Coppula is far less detailed than the book by Fitzgerald. In the first party that was thrown by Gatsby in chapter 3, many details were left out of the movie. These details were both minor and major, and left either a little or big difference o in the way the story was conveyed. The scene where Gatsby meets Nick for the first time is very different in the movie than in the book. Despite the differences that are displayed in the movie, the general plot and atmosphere of the party remain the same.
The Great Gatsby is an American novel written by Scott Fitzgerald. On the surface, the book revolves around the concept of romance, the love between two individuals. However, the novel incorporates less of a romantic scope and rather focuses on the theme of the American Dream in the 1920s. Fitzgerald depicts the 1920’s as an era of decline in moral values. As written in “The Great Gatsby”, the first example of similarity is that the book has the same theme to the “Roaring 20’s”. In the written book, Fitzgerald described the parties as huge and dramatic, where as in the movie, the directors did a fantastic job translating Fitzgerald’s words into a lavish visual spectacle of booze, sequins, and confetti.

Jay Gatsby, the main character is a wealthy man who highly believes in his allusions and in himself. Gatsby comes to represent America. .The Great Gatsby is a perfect portrayal of 21st Century America and the readers can learn about the American Experience, the self image, and the illusions that so many try to live up to. First, The Great Gatsby is a portrait of 21st century America.
Gatsby’s dreams and aspirations in life are rather interesting and amazing as he goes about his life in the book. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald helps highlight the social, moral, and political issue that were very present during the 1920’s and today. Gatsby is the focus of the book as before the book began, he was an ex-soldier who came to wealth by some rather illegal ways. Daisy a married woman is his person of interest, who was his ex-lover 5 years before the book started. Gatsby’s actions, and words demonstrate a clear obsession with Daisy that seems to have no end.

Scott Fitzgerald.”) The book highlighted a lot of the things that were going on in that time like the illegal production of alcohol due to the outlaw of alcohol known as prohibition. The entire plot of the movie “The Great Gatsby,” directed by Baz Luhrmann, is pretty much very accurate to the novel of the same name written by author F. Scott Fitzgerald. They both center around a man named Jay Gatsby who throws extravagant parties in hope that one day his love Daisy will wander in. Of course like all movies that are based off of books they all have their similarities and differences. Whether they be very small or very noticeable, sometimes even changing the entire story completely, they are still there. Sometimes the purpose of this could be that the director wants to add their own little twist to the story or it could be that they are going for a much deeper meaning or symbolism.

These affects manifested as traits in people, and further developed into stereotypes. In the post World War 1 America this novel is set in, industry and technology were becoming readily available to the public, cementing these stereotypes into our population as we quickly moved along at a new pace. In The Great Gatsby, these people, actions, and relationships, are represented by the four main characters: Nick, Daisy, Tom, and Jay. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses these characters to symbolize the stereotypical people of a modern America.
Comparing The Book The Great Gatsby to the Film Many literary works have been adapted into movies, however, books offer more detailed information to the audience compared to the movies. The Great Gatsby is an example of a novel that was adapted into a movie directed by Baz Luhrmann.
The Great Gatsby is an iconic piece of American literature encompassing the 1920s era in American history. This story was written in 1923 by F. Scott Fitzgerald and was later adapted into a movie in 1949, 1973, 2000, and then once again in 2013. In the 2000 version of the movie the plot line was very similar to the book with only a few major differences and a few discreet ones as well. The movie however, also followed the book very well and even used direct quotes from the book helping you to understand the point Fitzgerald was trying to make. Markowitz the director made many good decisions in this adaptation as well as a few costly mistakes that made the importance of the book and plot line of Fitzgerald’s book.
Great Gatsby In The Great Gatsby, it presents various themes which are, value, power, and a lot of unfaithfulness throughout the book and also the movie. There are great homes and jobs, also offering great American lives in the 1920s. Fitzgerald purposely sets up his book with these themes to bring out a message in the book and movie, every get together has its own problems to fight with, leaving a different theme behind in its path. There were different types of social classes throughout the book which were old money, new money, and then there's the no money which were the poor people living around both of the towns.

Throughout the novel, characters abandon their moral values for a materialistic lifestyle. The novel depicts a great picture of the roles men and women played in the 1920s. Even with the changing roles of men and women, they continued to rely heavily on whom they were married to and what social class they belonged to.
The last movie that I chose was The Great Gatsby (2013). This is also a great book to read, I recommend it to everyone! This movie is about a man named Nick who gets himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby. No, I didn’t choose this movie because Leonardo DiCaprio is a total hunk in the whole movie hehe. But the main reason why is because I love history, I know the story isn’t history but the time period with the 1920’s with the flapper girls and parties was part of history.
A solid piece of advice that my I have passively heard many say with regards to adapted movies is that you should never see the movie before you read the book. For now on, in response to this accusation I will mention Baz Luhrmann's 2013 adapted film, The Great Gatsby because simply this movie breaks the cynical wives tail of “read before you watch” . Personally, already read the original F.Scott Fitzgerald novel I can proudly say that this movie lives up to the name that F. Scott intended for it. The movie follows the main intention of the novel but contains some surprising points of view and some wild musical interpretations.
