Fisher Tull was born Waco, Texas in September 27th, 1934. Around the age of nine in the fifth grade, Fisher Tull began learning to play the trumpet which he continued to do throughout his schooling. As a trumpet player, Fisher Tull played both classical and jazz music and early in his life considered himself to be more of a jazz musician. Fisher Tull went on to enroll at The University of North Texas in 1952, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education. Following the completion of his first degree Tull went on to continue and complete his graduate studies at The University of North Texas in music theory and trumpet performance in 1957.
Paul Revere, the amazingly brave American hero who saved the country, say the storytellers and poets. While he really was just an average messenger who was captured by the British. In the poem Paul Revere’s ride by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Longfellow does an extraordinary job at creating suspense throughout the poem. He does this by often using metaphors, similes, and detailed descriptions including rhymes. Longfellow wrote “A phantom ship with a mast and spar Across the moon like a prison bar,” which are examples of rhyme, metaphor, and a simile.
Christopher Latore Wallace, later known as Biggie Smalls or the Notorious B.I.G., was born to Voletta Wallace and Selwyn Latore on May 21, 1972. His mother and father were immigrants from Jamaica. His dad lived in London for the most part as Biggie grew up in New York and was not a part of Biggie’s life as a child. “Selwyn was already married and ambiguous about his newborn son” (Peterson 418). Voletta was keen on education.
Around the end of the 19th century, there lived many people wanting equality between races. Two main leaders of the African American community that emerged during that time were W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington. All though both of these men were fighting for the same cause, they disagreed greatly with each other relating to the strategies that could be used to create progress in both the social and economic aspects of how African Americans lived and were treated. The two conflicting philosophies of these men are still affecting how we think of racial inequality, social class injustice, and much more; to this day.
George Washington Carver is the scientist whose biological discovery has made the greatest impact on my life. He was best known for the many uses he devised for the peanut. Mr. Carver was a prominent African-American “Scientist, Inventor, Botanist, and Chemist.” The peanut-including dyes, plastics, and gasoline. He works in plant pathology, however, established his reputation as a brilliant botanist.
In the first octave, Longfellow explains his regret of letting love get in the way of “fulfilling his aspiration”. He describes his ignorance as him letting love almost getting him “killed” (7). In line 6, Longfellow writes “Of restless passions that couldn’t be stilled” to represent how love struck he was. This love struck that he had gained had caused him to not be able to fulfill what he would have been able to and he expresses this in line 8 when he writes, “Kept me from what I may accomplish
Booker T Washington was a born a slave. From 1856 to 1915 Booker T Washington became one of the most Influential African American there was at the time by his great knowledge and his passion to help others. In 1881, Booker T Washington found the school Tuskegee Institute. A African American school made to train teachers. Booker T Washington Attended the school “Hampton University”
Thus, Longfellow’s poem is not a credible source of information. To summarize, Longfellow’s poem is not a credible source of information. Revere’s actions are not the same, the British army does not act in the same way for both writings, and the poem excludes Revere’s friends. Longfellow dramatized his poem by making it sound dreary and more challenging than needed. The author should do more research about Paul Revere’s ride because many statements within the poem are false.
William Golding’s writing “lays a solid foundation for the horrors to come,” as novelist E.M. Forster suggests in his introduction to the novel. In the earlier chapters of Lord of the Flies, Golding foreshadows the deaths of Piggy and Simon in many ways. For example, in chapter 1, the reader is introduced to Ralph as he walks through the jungle. “He was clambering heavily among the creepers and broken trunks when a bird, a vision of red and yellow, flashed upwards with a witch-like cry, and this cry was echoed by another,” (pg.7) Golding writes. The bird is an example of foreshadowing, its cries following one another representing how Simon dies and then Piggy follows, and its colors symbolizing the painted savages that had killed both of those
Edgar Allan Poe started publishing in 1827, he started publishing some of his classics such as “Tell-tale-heart”, “The Raven”, and “Berenice”. Due to Edgar’s lack of money, he was only able to go to the University of Virginia for a semester. Henry David Thoreau and Edgar Allan Poe were to complete different people but both had support from relatives and friends. Though Edgar was not very wealthy, he was very successful due to his writing and his artistic skills.
Born May 21, 1972 Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known as Biggie Smalls, was born in Brooklyn, New York City. Biggie Smalls is considered to be an artist under the genre of Hip-Hop. However, he is considered to be an East-Coast Hip-Hop rapper. After leaving jail for the first time, Christopher Wallace recorded a demo tape under the alias Biggie Smalls, a character from the movie Let’s Do It Again. After finding out that name was taken, he changed his name to The Notorious B.I.G. Biggie had a voice that just sounded like it was heavy, funky and rhythmic, because of this flow he is known for
Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe is an all-around well known American writer, editor, and literary critic. Poe was most known for his poetry, short stories, and tales of horror and mystery. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809 and started writing at the age of 18. In 1836 he married his 13-year-old cousin, Virginia Clemm.
That same year, he found himself under attack for his stinging criticisms of his fellow poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Poe claimed that Longfellow, a widely popular literary figure, was a plagiarist, and this written assault on Longfellow created a bit of backlash for Poe. Continuing work in different forms, Poe examined his own methodology and writing in general in several essays, including “The philosophy of composition”, “The poetic principle” and “The rationale of verse”. He also produced another thrilling tale, “The cask of Amontillado”, and poems such as “Ulalume” and “The bells”. Poe was overcome by grief after the death of his beloved Virginia in 1847.
The Romantic period was a time period in which people changed their views of the fine arts, which in turn affected their work. Some people Including Washington Irving did not agree with the view of the Romantic period and made fun of it in their work with some humorous stories. Irving was a well know writer in the late 18th century and early 19th century who grew up in New York. From the beginning of his life till the end, he was a funny man who loved the fine arts. Irving was originally a lawyer, but later he left his judicial career and followed his childhood dream of being a full-time writer, writing some poems which upon closer observation, it can be seen that he makes fun of the Romantic period.
T.S. Eliot is a worldwide famous poet, an American modernist, and the winner of the 1894 Nobel Prize in Literature. Eliot changed the existing order in English literature. His poetry and literary criticism changed the literary interests of the whole generation. Through his poems, he forces people to know the history of the development of English poetry and to look at the seventeenth-century England with a new vision of Romanticism. At the same time, his works deepen people 's understanding of French symbolism in the nineteenth century and make people more aware of the possibility of drawing lessons from foreign poetry.
