Fall of Rome DBQ Including most of the Mediterranean world, Rome, a city that was growing big enough to become one of the world’s largest empire’s would soon slowly fall apart because of their problems. In 27 BC, Rome’s first emperor, Augustus Caesar, took complete power. During his time, he ruled with Pax Romana, a time of Roman peace which lasted for almost 200 years. After his death, the Roman Empire begun to break apart. The primary reasons for the fall of Rome was it being geographically too big; the population was decreasing due to plagues which led to the Roman army becoming weak, social and military issues and laziness of the military would guide the army down which led to cities being lost, and their government and leadership issues of the weak or selfish power leaders would all conduct to the breaking up of Rome.
The Western Roman empire fell in 476 C.E.. The Roman Empire lasted nearly 500 years. Before the fall of the Western Empire, Constantine split the Roman Empire into two parts, west and east. He moved the government and the capital to Byzantine (later renamed Constantinople). While ancient Rome and modern day America are very different in some ways, they are similar in other ways.
Other invaders killed the Roman emperors and most likely then fled the country. This was because at the time, Rome was far ahead of the other countries. It owned most of them, and was very powerful. This was bad for the city because new people were hurting the Romans, or even killing
Between the 200 B.C.E - 750 B.C. Erra years there ruled two empires both alike in dignity, the great Roman Empire and the Qin and Han Empires. Both began forming their empires into a centralized dictatorship, administered by a large and effective bureaucracy. Similarly in reaching their climax of final ruling, their economics and military increased. Both empires were not only able to to expand their territory vastly, but also dividing the empires into provinces governed by officials while doing so. The empires took on competing rivals, the Romans fought against Greece triumphing into success.
The great Western Roman Empire was considered to be one of the most powerful empires in human history. Rome became the most powerful state in the world by the first century BCE through a combination of military might, political acumen, and economic might. The empire was founded on blood of two brother’s who fought to the death to be crowned King, which lead to the first King of Rome who was named Romulus. By the third century BCE, all of Rome’s power and greatness began to diminish. Rome was falling.
Confusion of leadership caused the government to be highly unstabalized and as the empire grew; lower classes were being burdened by increasing taxes. Ineffective leadership did not allow these problems to be addressed and over extension of borders caused the empire to be too much for one person to rule so the empire was split into two eastern and western
The Palace of Diocletian is situated by the Adriatic Sea near the small town, Spalatum. The palace was built by the emperor, Diocletian, at the beginning of the fourth century in preparation for his retirement on 1 May 305. Although it is referred to as a ‘palace’, in actual fact, it is more of a fortress with Diocletian using half of it as his personal residence and the other for the military. Emperor Diocletian began his life a low-class family in Dalmatia. Slowly, his status rose as he moved up the ranks in the military until he became the emperor of Rome.
This emperor was different since according to Aristides he says that he was elected to protect and care for the people not to be their master and that he also had equality within the poor, rich, weak, and powerful people. The Roman Empire is a good representation of the modern world since the United States has a similar political system, but a bit more modern since we have one person in charge but he has more people under him to be able to rule the country effectively. The Roman Empire and the United States are similar since the government is there to care and protect the people from harm and to keep everything equal among the people. By having that type of government, it helped the emperor have peace within the people and by having that it allowed the empire to be able to conquer and control the empire with no problems which is why they were able to last a while without being
This rapid expansion was due to the constant conquering of land to support the economic structure of the Roman Empire. This is significant because the political changes that are made by leaders are implemented into society very quickly. The Roman Empire’s spread across a large portion of Europe and parts of Asia minor, it was a place of sanctuary for the citizens until the political situation allowed for the empire to split into two. One being the western empire that would later fall in 476AD while the eastern empire would go on being the Byzantine Empire lasting for hundreds of years. Some historians claim that there are as many as a hundred political and non-political interweaving reasons that led to the collapse of Roman Empire. One of the important political causes is the division of the Empire into two empires, the west (Latin) and the eastern (Greek, later known as the Byzantine empire) in 284 A.D. by Diocletian. This division was adopted to protect the over-expanding empire and to defend its borders against the Barbarian attacks. This was achieved initially as the two empires synchronized responsibilities and strengthened each.
Within 50 years after the fall of Rome, Byzantine Emperor Justinian rose to power and began reconquering Roman territories. In 549, following the fall of Western Rome, Justinian was able to reconquer essentially the whole Western Roman Empire in an attempt to reunite the Roman Empires. He not only nearly reunited the Western Roman Empire by reconquering it, but he was also able to take over portions of Spain during this period. This demonstrates Justinian's desire to re-unite the Roman empire, as well as his strength as a military
In hindsight what didn’t help this struggling Roman system was the split that occurred between the East and West in 285 AD. The ruler at that time, Emperor Diocletian realised that the Empire had grown so vast it was infeasible to govern all its provinces from one seat of power in Rome. Therefore, he split the empire in two, with the Eastern Empire governed out of Byzantium (later Constantinople) and the Western Empire governed from Rome. This split however, was not necessarily healthy for the West. It bore the fruit of disaster and some historians have argued this is the point from which the Empire really began to decline leading to the subtle fall in the West.

From a simple city/state to two vast empires ruled by powerful dictators. As you (hopefully) know, Rome in its infancy was just a small village on the river Tiber. After Rome grew a bit it became more akin to that of a city/state, its central governing city still being Rome. The next key phase in the evolution of the government of Rome was the Roman monarchy. This phase is characterized by its monarch rulers and, has little known of it as few records exist dating back to that era.
When Diocletian split the empire it was a monumentally mistake. He divided the empire based on language with the western side speaking Latin and the East side speaking Greek. When Diocletian Died a civil war broke out because there was so much unrest inside the country. Social Problems were a factor people lost confidence in the Roman Empire. People just let the Fall of Rome just happen they did not care.
