The term "globalization" has acquired considerable controversial force within the twentieth century. For some, the process of globalization carries the promise of unleashing productive forces that will reduce poverty and raise living standards throughout the world, in both industrialized and underdeveloped countries. Others, however, see this phenomenon as a new strategy for the exploitation of politically weak and economically failing countries by the powerful nations of Europe and North America. It is undeniable that globalization has resulted in both positive and negative effects which must be addressed accordingly.

One of the biggest downsides of globalization is the harm it can cause to underdeveloped countries, and developing countries by exploiting cheap labour. For example Canadian companies such as Joe Fresh, will open up factory in country such as Bangladesh because it is cheap labour, even though they are forced to work in substandard conditions. In addition, this results in lost jobs for Canadians. Many Canadians have lost jobs to outsourcing because they can not compete with the cheap labour in other countries. The jobs they find to replace them are also often lower paying. Thirdly, due to the cheaper labour sources this could result in some Canadian companies losing their comparative advantage, forcing them to go out of business due to lack of productivity. Lastly, a long term con that is often overlooked by our world today, is increased pollution. As climate change is on the rise, the limited pollution regulations in other countries with cheaper labour are contributing to an issue much greater than we perceive it to
