Everyone Gets Stereotyped Stereotyping others can lead to problems in the future and can cause people to become upset. When the characters George and Lennie from the book Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, are first introduced its easy to tell George stereotypes Lennie as stupid. Since Lennie is stereotyped as stupid, he causes problems throughout the book. George is also stereotyped, but as protective of Lennie. Throughout the book George tries to help Lennie as much as he can, even if it leads to a bad situation.
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the author uses the motif of barriers to show that causes that lead into the failure of these character hopes and dreams. The ability to own your own land is the main dream held by four of the characters in the book. The idea of owning your own land is a simile for a life of happiness. There are two other unattainable dreams which are held by Curley's wife, and Crooks. Curley's wife once had an offer to become an actress in Hollywood, however the person never bequeathed the job to her.
In modern society, most men follow the social construct of masculinity. Although men care about other men, social norms force them to repress emotions and feelings. However, in John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men, the characters George and Lennie defy this stereotype. Despite typical conventions, both men travel together and care for one another. Steinbeck uses the bond between these characters to reveal that true companionship could endure difficulties and hardships.
In the book Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, takes place in Soledad California and follows George and Lennie. George and Lennie, who has a cognitive disability had to walk to their new job. They arrived at the Farm and meet all the men, among these people is Candy. He tells them about Curley’s wife and how flirty she is, and George tells Lannie to stay away from her. They also learn that since they were there late the boss took his anger out on an African American man named Crooks.
In Of Mice And Men there are so many human rights problems that it makes me wonder how did some people go from dirt poor to wealthy. The main human right problem in Of Mice And Men is that Lennie can’t get the healthcare that he needs because he is poor. After reading the novel and doing some research I have found a solution to this human rights problem that can help lots of people and could help Lennie. The solution I have found is that the government could tax people a little bit more than they are normally taxed and in return the government can use that money to inform people about people with mental illnesses and the government can also about up healthcare buildings so people can go get the health care that they need and deserve.
How can someone avoid social privilege, or privilege in general that restricts people? In the material Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck illustrates examples of how the majority is constricted of how far they progress in life due to social advantages and relations. With the characters in Of Mice and Men, readers get a wide variety of diverse negative and positive benefits across the palate of struggling people. Privilege is a harsh reality defined by social status and molds humans into a predetermined way of living. Women are generally less privileged due to the gender barrier and roles.

Prior to the later part of the 20th century people with intellectual disabilities were often ridiculed, treated unfairly, feared, and locked away in institutions. According to Rhonda Nauhaus and Cindy Smith in their article Disability Rights through the Mid-20th Century, The laws of any nation reflect its societal values. The real life issue of discrimination towards people with intellectual disabilities in the United States and Australia is demonstrated in the novel, Of Mice and Men by showing how this issue affects one of the main characters, Lennie Smalls.
Did you know that 30 states have laws in their constitutions that prohibit the disabled from voting? Unfortunately, many people feel the need to take away basic human rights, because they feel that the disabled ones cannot handle it. Many disabled ones are born with disabilities and they cannot help how they look, talk, or act. Should this be the reason that they should be reduced to below the way that children are treated? In the book Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck demonstrates the way that disabled ones are treated in the real world through his character Lennie.
America is often perceived as a country that values human rights. But on many occasions, this has been invalidated through the objectification of people of all genders, races, and backgrounds. Objectification is the act of treating a person as though they are not human but much rather an object or thing. For instance, Frederick Douglass’s aunt Hester in Narrative of the Life of a Slave by Frederick Douglass and Curley’s wife in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. Objectification has caused human suffering, not just in the past but today as well.
Were racism and sexism that different on a California ranch 1930’s? In the novel Of Mice and Men, there is evidence of both sexism and racism throughout the story. Curley’s wife and Crooks are both characters who have first witnessed these views first hand. The two characters might be very similar in many ways but they also have differences. Even though Crooks and Curley’s wife are treated in the same ways one of them is not as badly treated as the other.
In the novel “Of Mice and Men” John Steinbeck portrays the theme of social injustice throughout the story in the lives of several characters that include Lennie, Curley’s Wife, and the stable buck, Crooks. All of these characters are mistreated in some way, shape or form. The hardships that these characters faced help guide us to see the social injustice that is prevalent in the story. Lennie is a victim of social injustice due to the fact that he is mentally disabled. He is not treated fairly when he was accused of rape.
World of Sexism Due to the Great Depression, women’s rights took a back seat to employment and poverty. It was believed that women shouldn’t work but stay at home, clean, cook, and raise their children. The prejudice against women in the society was great back in the 1930s for they were degraded and underestimated. All the rights they had gained in the 1920s were neglected and the women were once again maltreated. In Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, the victim of sexism is Curley’s wife who is so insignifact that even a name was not provided for her.
A wise man once said, “Racism is man’s gravest threat to man – the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason” -Abraham Joshua Heschel. Heschel in a high degree is true. Multiple examples demonstrate racism unjustifiably posing a “threat to man”. Whether discrimination is affecting someone because of their ethnicity, religion, or disability, it is all wrongfully imposed.

In the book of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, many characters show a cruel side of them that was a bit misunderstanding but had their own personal reasons why they acted cruel. The novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, with a very intense storyline is about two best friends named Lennie Small and George Milton who are always on the road looking for work on farms, since they’re planning to own their own farm someday. When luck hits them and find work at a ranch they meet many people at the ranch but everyone doesn’t get along. Sadly in the end when George finds out they wanted to kill Lennie, George ended up killing Lennie himself.
In 1920 when the 19th amendment was passed allowing women to vote, many women thought that Gender Inequality was coming to an end. Soon after, the Great Depression happened, and everyone was focused on that. Life for women was especially hard then because they had to live in a world full of poverty and discrimination. Throughout Of Mice and Men we see this through Curley’s Wife. She just wants to fit in and talk to the men without thinking she wants something, or being called rude names.
