Living in the 1920s was a struggled with attitudes of racism and discrimination towards immigrants whom people blamed for many social and economic problems. Both in modern times and in the 1920’s there was a lot of discrimination against immigrants entering the United State. The United State at first had welcomed immigrants into the country to help develop its growing potential; however, this policy changed when the immigrant population dramatically increased. They started to not like it and think that the economic problem and the issues they had been because of immigrants and African Americans are causing these economic problems.
The modern stigma against illegal immigrants has been caused by the media focusing on crimes caused by illegal immigrants and not how illegal immigrants have been successful and helpful. There is no doubt that now a day the main concern in todays world is discrimination towards the Hispanics. ‘’In a study conducted by Rutgers University, 22% of Hispanic/Latino workers reported experiencing workplace discrimination, compared to only 6% of whites’’. Discrimination towards Hispanic race is a big social injustice that affects the Hispanic because they have hard time getting benefits in a job and lack of knowing English as there Second language. I believe no one should be judged by there appearance but by they’re potential. In other words, its not right for people that come here for better opportunity’s to reach there potential and being denied because there not us citizens.
Being a child of immigrant parents makes you appreciate life so much because everyday it’s an opportunity to be the best you can be to make everyone around you proud. My parents can’t got back to school and get an education so being able to see me succeed is worth their hard work. My parents have taught me to never give up. I know that some doors may be closed on me but that doesn’t mean other doors won’t open. I want to be someone who represents the Hispanic community.
In summary, the differences between myself and the community of Mexican-Americans is that I am a black African from Nigeria and the community consists of white Hispanics from Mexico. Mexican Americans came, as the name implies, from Mexico. Immigration of Mexican into USA started from the gold rush in California and the copper mining in Arizona, but a large number immigration came as a result of political unrest in the early twentieth century. Profiling against immigrants isn't only targeted towards illegal immigrants. It is targeted towards all generations of Latinos in the United State, this is discriminatory and unconstitutional. We shouldn't allow citizens as well as none citizens to be harassed by authorities because they look like where they came from. In the mid-1980s, my newlywed parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico seeking to build a better life for themselves and their forthcoming family. With only a small suitcase of clothes and little money, they came devoted and eager to start a new chapter on foreign land. Over time they encountered overwhelming struggles and hardships but, nevertheless, they managed to stay loyal to their profound culture. Growing up as a daughter to immigrant parents with strong beliefs and values, I have been deeply influenced who I am as an individual. Their encounters with numerous hardships have greatly motivated and inspired me to challenge myself to be the best person I can be.
