How would you react if you found out your spouse was transgender? Would you still be with them and love them? For Millie in the novel Trumpet, she accepted the fact that her husband Joss Moody was in fact a women and she still loved him. Sadly that is not the reality in today’s society. Violence and rejection are usually what happens when we see or know someone who is transgender. When we say that America is the land of opportunity, do we really mean everyone? For Joss keeping the secret was a lot easier than his life would have been if he did not because of the rejection and comments he would have gotten.
