It portrays mockingbirds as very innocent animals that do nothing to harm us. They do not bother humans but rather make music for us instead. “Uncle Jack was a prince of fellow not to let me down” (To Kill a Mockingbird 117). She put this into her book to show that Scout still thinks highly of Uncle Jack. Symbolism- Use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy.
For example, when Jem and Scout got the, “two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good luck pennies, and our lives” (373). Harper Lee used symbolism in this passage by the two soap dolls to represent Jem and Scout and the broken watch and chain to represent the trial. I think this because Boo Radley watches over Jem and Scout and the trial is represented by the broken watch and chain because Tom Robinson was clearly innocent and all evidence was against Bob Ewell raping Mayella . Harper Lee used symbolism the theme to think for yourself. Diction, Imagery, and Symbolism are all ways Harper Lee developed the theme to think for yourself in To Kill A Mockingbird.
The mockingbird in To Kill A Mockingbird is symbolic of innocence. Early in the novel, Atticus, the father tells the children Scout and Jem that it is a "sin to kill a mockingbird". Later Scout asks Miss Maudie what he meant by that because she has never heard her father say anything was a sin. Miss Maudie explains his reasoning by saying that all mockingbirds do is provide beautiful music. They do not harm anyone, they don't bother anyone, and they "sing their hearts out for us."
Symbolism is used by many authors to convey a specific message that carries a deep meaning. In Harper lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the primary symbol is the Mockingbird. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the mockingbird is a metaphor for Tom Robinson. While mockingbirds are discussed in the novel as literal birds that harmlessly sing and entertain, Lee clearly uses the mockingbird to symbolize Tom Robinson. One reason that supports this idea is a Robinson is a innocent man who tried to help someone but then was convicted of rape. Another reason that supports the metaphor is Tom, the innocent songbird, was put on trial for his life and was convicted guilty. This inhuman action of murdering an innocent and harmless man who wanted to help is like the killing of a harmless songbird.both are innocent, and both murders are wrong.
Multiple characters are symbolized as mockingbirds because it would be a sin to kill them as they only try and want to be a kind, civil person. Boo Radley is a misunderstood, and kind-hearted man who is represented as a mockingbird in the novel. Boo, due to the county's curiosity and fast pace spreading of rumours, is often perceived as monster “Inside the house lived a malevolent phantom” (Lee 8).

The poet, Lascelles Abercrombie once said, “There is only one thing which can master the perplexed stuff of epic material into unity; and that is, an ability to see in particular human experience some significant symbolism of man 's general destiny.”. He talked about how powerful of a tool symbolism is and how it is the only thing that can truly define a highly complex ‘destiny’ or series of events. Symbolism is something that is found throughout Harper Lee’s book, To Kill a Mockingbird. Lee shows the reader that racism is a product of society, she portrays the matter through her symbolism of the mad dog, the birds and the bugs.

The boy scouts for more than 100 years has been a masculine organization, many girls had applied to this program but they were rejected so it has made many women feel discriminated against by this, and dedicated their life to the fight against discrimination. But there are also girl scouts that is also an organization only for women, and in other words, men are also discriminated by this organization because man also cannot form part of this group. I do not see the need to fight by each other’s if each gender has its own organization. Finally the goal or dream of many people who fought so that this organization can accepts the girls was achieved, because now girls can be part of the boy scouts, now it will be a mixed program.
It is a sin to kill a Mockingbird. It is a sin because they are innocent, good, protective animals that mind their own business and don 't do anything but good for their community. Throughout the novel Harper Lee uses symbolism of many things to strengthen the theme of social inequality. The title of the book is the most obvious use of symbolism. When she receives an air gun as a gift, Scout is instructed to leave the mockingbirds alone for “its a sin to kill a mockingbird” and they pose no threat.

In this book, Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are two innocent men, similar to mockingbirds, who get taken advantage of due to their innocence. Mockingbirds are innocent because they only positively affect people through their singing.
