During these few weeks democrats and Republicans Who are running for president were engaged in a battle to win the Iowa caucus. The state of Iowa hosted the first official vote of the 2016 campaign. During the Iowa caucus, different tactics and strategies were used by both parties to gain votes, through the use of persuasion ,repugnant comments, and the use of the media. The two articles I will be discussing, “ Ad Wars of 2016 Campaign Erupt in a Changing TV Arena” by Nick Corasaniti and “Attack ! why next 2 weeks could get nastier than ever” by Jennifer Jacobs.
The U.S. women’s movement started in 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott participated in the Seneca Falls Convention in New York to talk about various social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women (Women’s History in the U.S....). Over time, this inspired many women to stand up for their own beliefs and for the better for women in future generations. During World War I, high birth rates led to food and supply shortages, and disease which mainly affected those in poverty (Putting Margaret Sanger’s Ideas in Context). At the time, a woman’s life revolved around bringing food home and onto the table which became an issue with the lack of supplies and the best foods would be given first to men (Comstockery in America).

Armed forces are no longer fighting with swords or lined up in trenches as commonly as they used to. It is only natural for something that is made to protect civilizations to evolve as strategists are introduced to new technologies. I think this quote plays a key role in Lanada Boyer’s article when getting her point across in her article; that Natives are a strong group of individuals, capable of overcoming any atrocity that the white man has created. Margaret Sanger Margaret Sanger, a feminist social reformer, argued that “women cannot be on equal footing with men until they have complete control over their reproductive functions”. Her argument improved our everyday life by providing more information on contraceptives, giving women the power to control their bodies, and changing the role of women and men. Margaret Sanger was determined and dedicated to provide women with information about contraceptives which eventually improved the lives of many women. During the Progressive Era, women had gained a lot more interest in becoming independent by working and improving their education.

In the NPR article, Michelle Jokisch Polo examines Black birth workers, including doulas and midwives, who deliver black babies and prioritize Black mothers, noting how the social context exacerbates this health disparity. In class, we read and discussed the work and impact of Anna Julia Cooper, a revolutionary figure and early black feminist theorist. Cooper’s position as a Black woman and renowned educator shaped her ideas and applying these ideas to Polo’s article offers a unique perspective.
The Era of Soft News In today’s world, society moves as quickly as it can while exerting as little energy as possible. This idea is particularly applicable to the way media is created and circulated. While hard news, which is essentially news that covers serious political or business related topics that is reported in an immediate fashion, used to be the standard for receiving information, it seems that the current generation prefers to obtain information through soft news instead. There is no set definition for soft news, but its delivery is generally associated with more passivity, humor, and personality.

In the article Dangers of a Single Story author Aditchie express her frustration on the dangers of a single story from media sources and how it traps the minds of viewers that do not change the channel or go out there way to find out more about the topic. And in this case i do agree with Aditchie.
Society expect to be constantly entertained; they have become so concerned with things such as who the latest star is dating, scandals, or dumb people doing rather idiotic things. Much of society have been consumed in their personal instant gratification and what makes them “happy”. When on an off chance that news does show things that are serious and impactful(not necessarily positive things that is happening in the world) people have become so numb that the best they could do is feel sympathetic and at worst continue on with their day. The other part of the problem is that those behind what is being published and shown on the news media have been absorbed in their avarice nature, whatever allows them to make as much profit they do. “Writing thousands of hours of coverage from what could have been summarized in a couple of minutes every few weeks, a new rhetorical strategy was developed, or-let’s be generous-evolved”(6), Saunders describes the new formula formed by mass news firms that would yield the most profit.
The media will pick and choose which topics to discuss according to the viewer’s ratings. The news media represent the news in a manner that will leave people coming back for more. They choose carefully what they want to report and by doing so they do not spread lies within the articles but what they choose not to tell the audience. The media shares what the people
The tabloid journalism also affects politics to a significant extent. The present trend in media reporting constantly keeps watch on the personal life of the politicians rather than pressing importance on the official activities .They deliberately search for scams, scandals and corruptions. This results in concentrating the public’s sight on the personal life of famous people which in a way is breaching of their privacy .The tabloid journalism also succeeded in creating public opinion due to which the public becomes judgmental about their leaders and blindly go by the matter reported by the press.
