Acts of Courage only double space after the title
In the literary work, Divergent, written by Veronica Roth, there are many different personalities at play. Because of this variety of personalities, the people of dystopian Chicago are split up into factions. These factions are Candor (the honest), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), and Dauntless (the brave). Natalie shows the ultimate act of bravery when she sacrifices her life to ensure Tris’ safety. “…She runs into the middle of the street. She holds her gun above her head and fires three times into the air… I hear them fire back... My mother stiffens, her back arching. Blood surges from a wound in her abdomen” (Lines 5-15; page 443). This act is courageous because giving one’s life to save countless others it is the ultimate sacrifice one can make. Natalie made her decision to try and distract the Dauntless guards from pursuing Tris so that her daughter could have a chance to escape and save others. The third character that showed courage was Four, or Tobias. Due to an abusive father, Tobias, who as Abnegation-born, left his faction and his father to become a part of Dauntless. “Marcus’s violence and cruelty toward his son is the reason his son chose Dauntless instead of Abnegation” (Lines 18-20; page 34) and “’Why did you have to leave?’... ‘You had to get away from your dad” (Lines 16 and 21; page 335).
