The battle started on June 4th, 1942 and lasted until June, 7th 1942 (“Battle of Midway”). the battle changes the whole course of the Pacific Theater. The Battle of Midway was able to show how powerful the United States Navy was. A small inexperienced navy was able to destroy a much larger and powerful navy.

This is our story.” Throughout the strory, the author Wes Moore created this book The Other Wes Moore, doubling is when two characters are described about their life and they both share the same but different story. The author uses imagery, juxtaposition, and irony to develop coming-of-age themes. Ultimately, the author shows doubling between him and the other Wes Moore and to pick out that their stories couldve been eachothers.
Toward the beginning of Ray Bradbury’s, Something Wicked This Way Comes, William Halloway was often associated with dramatic irony to show his deficient understanding of the carnival’s operation but verbal irony to show that he was also suspicious of the carnival. Dramatic irony is evident when Will and Jim question the whereabouts of the lighting rod salesman, like when one of them said, “Storm never came. But he went.”(Bradbury70) then the other said, “Where? And why did he leave his bag?”(70), and finally, “What’s so important you forget everything?”(70).

"The Blue Hotel" is heavily related to Shakespeare and his idea of "things are not as they appear". The entire intro of the story is written by Crane in a way that is showing the distrust of the Swede and how he feels vulnerable at this hotel. To the Swede, the situation appears horrifying and life-threatening. Though it is not as it seems to him, in reality, Crane uses dramatic irony to show that while the Swede is being calmed down all of the men speak of how they have no violent intent towards the Swede. Along with this the owner of the hotel, named Scully, appears to be a menacing old man.
She did not have parents who really cared for her when she was younger, so she always had to make the best of a bad situation. Jeanette feels her childhood turned out the way it did because of how she was raised. She feels that “No child is born a delinquent. They only became that way if nobody loved them when they were kids.” (Walls 83).
Antagonists are characters that are represented as evil, bad, and the opposite of morality. They commit crimes and their story is usually not told. In the book by John Gardner, the antagonist’s story is told from beginning to end, giving the reader a chance to see the underlying true story of the villain and how it can impact the reader’s ability to sympathize for the villain. When the word evil comes to mind, the word murder comes to mind as well. Grendel has committed murder dozens of times and has shown no remorse for his actions.
She continuously brings innocent people into the mess, like on page 162, Tituba and her name off random citizens in the town and wrongly accuse them of being with the devil. This just makes the story an even bigger
No one can defeat Death There once was a young woman, who strived to be immortal, this caused her to bind herself away from the world for years. She decided one day that she had conquered death by changing her fate and goes to venture the town where she met a strange man, who insults her, filled with anger she decides to go after him where she faces death. A very similar situation is portrayed in “The Masque of the Red Death” with the character Prince Prospero, who believes that he has changed his fate by locking himself in his palace for years but this doesn’t end well for him as he faces death in his own home. In “The Masque of the Red Death”, written by Edgar Allen Poe, irony and symbolism to is used prove that death is inevitable.
Has fear ever caused you to commit an act you knew was morally wrong? Fear can get a hold of someone and completely change their morals, concerns, or how they feel about certain people. It can cloud your mind and make you think irrationally in certain situations. Fear is a feeling that can harm someone emotionally and physically. In stories such as: “The Tell-Tale Heart”, ”The Pit and the Pendulum”, and “The Masque of Red Death”, Edgar Allan Poe displays the use of symbolism, irony, and imagery to paint a picture in the reader’s mind.

It is crazy to think how pop culture can point to the things it works so hard to reject, but in the case of Divergent by Veronica Roth, parallels between it and the gospel abound. Divergent is set in a dystopian Chicago in which the citizens are divided into 5 factions; the brave, the selfless, the intelligent, the honest and the kind. The story follows Tris Prior, a sixteen year old girl who realizes her Divergence, or possession of characteristics of more than one faction. The novel and film adaption of Divergent include many similarities to the gospel, notably the emphasis on a choice of commitment, the concept that we need more than one characteristic to grow, that salvation is brought about through sacrifice, and that humankind is at its heart, evil.
For example, when Jean is talking to Dean after Dean threatens to reveal her plan, Jean says that she is “the daughter” of “Lady Howard” and if she “chooses” then she can be the “wife of Mr. Coventry”(48). This shows an example of Jean revealing herself to another person, but she is doing to intimidate Dean. This also shows that she is proud of manipulating Gerald and is bragging to Dean that she did, which is lifting her mask because not many others knew of it. In addition, when Jean’s letters are being read by the Coventry family her motivations of “[bewitching] Monsieur” who is Gerald, “by playing nurse” that were kept secret are revealed(65). Her motivations show that her secrecy and acting were used to manipulate Gerald for her plan.
Gabriel Garcia Marquez effectively incorporates irony in the novel “Chronicle of a Death Foretold” with the objective to depict hypocritical values and views on the Latin Culture. Gabriel Marquez uses this technique to portray his views on; the role of women, the honour killing actions taken by the Vicario twins, the society in Latin America, the role of Santiago 's mother and the role of the Church. Irony is used to demonstrates the views presented by Gabriel Marquez on the role of women. In Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” readers are dropped into a deep conflict. A man must tell a woman that her husband is dead. In the beginning there is a subtle hint at the ironic twist ending, but the story goes on cooly in spite of it. Readers start to feel connected to Mrs. Mallard and begins to pity her situation, all because of irony. The effect of irony in Kate Chopin’s “The Story of an Hour” enhances the protagonist’s situation, it introduces the effect of the foreshadowing, and indirectly characterizes the protagonist.
