It shows her transition into happiness and recognising the blessings in her life. This book is cyclic; it begins and finishes with the girl in her bedroom with a negative view on how the day begins and ends. But then there is a tonal shift on page 23 when she says, “But suddenly there it is right in front of you bright and vivid quietly waiting”. The use of symbolism is used through a bright red leaf. The leaf is a constant motif throughout the book representing her blessings and the good things in her life, but she hadn’t taken the time to notice it.
At the end of the book, we can also see that the heroine of the book always had faith in her father, even when he failed her many times. When he left, she still believed him. Love for a father has never disappeared and will always be an inspiration in her life. At the end, Jeannette carefully shows the reader that "the boundary between turbulence and order" has never been
It says that Hazel is going over to speak to the rabbit who he does not know. He wants to include Blackberry mostly because it could be dangerous and they do not know if this new rabbit will be nice or not. They are very cautious as approaching the rabbit which could be identified as a quality for non-leaders but in fact it is good to be cautious sometimes to make sure that you do not get hurt. At various points in life, everyone meets with choices, and what one makes of these choices is all that matters. Similarly, Felicia made a choice of filling her life with Grace after being stuck in a long and tiring Midnight. It is about how life has conflicts and how one can still manage, to walk out the negative and come to the positive. For when her birth mother forgets her responsibility, her foster mom, takes her as own and showers the love she deserves. But, it's not only about celebrating the positives, it's also about learning from the negatives.
She is such a weak and dissatisfied character that she is always seeking for validation in hopes that it will make her feel better and obliterate how unhappy she is. She has convinced herself into happiness that she doesn’t even acknowledge her suicide attempt. She buried any signs of feelings deep inside her so would feel the pain that she is internally experiencing and avoids any type of confrontation with her real life. Another emotionally unfulfilled character in the book is Beatty. Beatty is conformed with the society because he knows what he is doing is wrong but he is too afraid to say something.
She provides clues in her letters that she should have realized and that in hindsight, makes her realize precisely why the relationship between her and Ed was doomed from the start. Since all of the characters see this except for Ed and Min, it also shows that "love is blind" because those engrossed in the relationship see things much differently than those outside of the relationship. The title of the book gave away the whole climax, the readers were aware that Ed and Min were broken up, but it's not until the end of the book where we finally figure out why. Min finds out that Ed has been cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend, Annette.
