In Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello Desdemona’s passion to help Cassio get his job back leads to all troubles. Her ignorance and trust for those around her leads her to her own death.
Desdemona’s love for her husband makes her very ignorant of her husbands motives and actions towards her. Emilia warns “ pray heaven it be state matter as you think, and no conception nor no jealous joy concerning you.” However with Emilia’s warnings she still defends him and still does not see any wrong in Othello. Othello calling her names is her chance to realise that her husband has changed and her chance to escape or defend herself before it is too late. He gets so angry at some point that is strikes her “ I have not deserved this” but she still stays submissive even after being disrespected by Othello. When Othello tries to kill her and Emilia finds her “ Nobody; I myself fairwell commend me to my kind lord O fairwell” even at her death bed she still takes the blame for him. Showing that she does not see the wrong in what he did. Clearly showing that she sees everything that was happening to her normal.
When Othello starts treating Desdemona with disrespect she stays respectful and submissive still calling him “…my lord” even after he calls her “…a whore” . Her “true and loyal” love for Othello is what leaves her in the position she is in. She does not want to see her husband as a jealous insecure man she wants to see him as the brave man from the stories he told her. Desdemona’s denial is what makes her look helpless but she had time to save herself.
Desdemona does not let go of making sure Cassio gets his job back “ come now, your promise” she is persistent even when Othello says he does not want to talk about it. She asks “…honest Iago” to help her find out what is wrong with Othello but she does not realise that the one she trusts the most is the one feeding her husband lies.
