Othello and Desdemona’s love was pure with passion but their love was also fragile which made it easy to destroy with lies and misunderstandings. Desdemona expressed her strong love for Othello when she choose to stand by his side when her father found out that they had eloped. Along with ‘swearing’ under god that she would never become unfaithful to her husband even if it was for the world. Desdemona let herself be killed by the hands of her husband but in the end she still loved him. Desdemona’s passionate love and awe inspiring womanly virtue shows such an unbreakable faithfulness and loyalty only to be misunderstood in such a navie way by a man who was called ‘friend’ by both. Desdemona’s love and loyalty shown to Othello when they had eloped without her father’s permission and later when she faces the Duke, she stands up to her father to stay by her husband’s side; “But here’s my husband, And as much duty as my mother showed to you preferring you before her father, so much I challenge that I may profess due to the Moor my lord” (1.3.187-191). “No by this heavenly light” (4.5.51)! Desdemona swears to Emilia; not only does this show her loyalty to Othello, “Beshrew me if I would do such a wrong for the whole world” (4.3.81-82). But also her woman virtue that she wouldn’t shame herself to become someone who is used by others just to make her husband a king. The conversation between Emilia and Desdemona just shows how much Desdemona is faithful to her husband and even if there wasn’t a husband to be faithful too, Desdemona still wouldn’t become such a woman. Desdemona is a kind of woman that will save herself for only one man and that is the man that she loves passionately and purely; a man that she would die
