Dog Rehoming: A Personal Statement

I am very keen in being a part of this research as dog rehoming thoroughly interests me and I would like to expand my experience in canine behavioural research with help towards understanding the dogs we are seeing up for re-homing. I have worked with pre-owned pooches for almost 2 years now; working in the rescue sector with dogs that have been brought in due to owners not being able to look after them or deal with their behaviours. I have worked with training them, advertising them, rehoming them, and helping adopters once they have gone to their new homes. I want to be a part of this research as I believe my academic and professional background will be vital to this research. I believe that the Royal Veterinary Collage offers the best reciprocal environment in which to grow and diversify my approach to this research. Working alongside my supervisor, I intend to tap into the departmental expertise on animal behaviour and – using the framework of the 2021 report by Packer et al – reveal new insights by building upon the current research.
This project will contribute to existing research the college has undergone and help with research that is important with todays standards of dog rehoming after the shift of lockdown. Continuing my study, gaining my degree in Animal Behaviour, I learnt even more on animal behaviour and human impact. During my degree, I carried out several research projects and gained skills in collecting data and analysis to form a conclusion. I conducted research in the UK and gained direct experience of collecting samples of quantitative and qualitative data and analysing to form conclusions. I developed an aptitude for behavioural analysis and enjoyed the challenge of comparing this with human involvement and interpretation. This practical background has enabled me to be confident in my ability to source and analyse the re-selling/re-homing of dogs I require for this PhD
