There has been a lot of talk about domestic violence in the news the past few years. People talking about the Ray Rice incident and how his wife stayed by his side. Another big incident that happened was Hope Solo facing domestic violence charges after punching her sister and nephew at a party. Professional and College players should not be punished for domestic violence until after being found guilty in the court of law. Many college coaches are already talking to their players about problems like domestic violence and how to deal with their problems so things like this don’t occur. It’s not only the NFL that is dealing with situations like this. It takes a lot to match the NFL these days when it comes to missteps in the handling of players charged with assaulting family members and loved ones. Women’s Soccer has turned a blind eye to this with Hope Solo. Solo was charged with domestic violence after hitting her sister and 17 year-old nephew. Anyone can argue the differences between an NFL player punching his soon-to-be wife and a soccer star brawling with her family, but it is indisputable that both qualify as domestic violence. During a time where domestic violence in sports is dominating the national conversation, U.S. Soccer did that again by keeping Solo in goal when she shouldn 't have been anywhere near it. Solo has apologized on Facebook for what she characterized as "a highly unfortunate incident." She said she looked forward to getting back on the field, "where I belong." But actually she doesn 't. Not in a world in which female and male athletes are ever to be treated equally. Like Ray Rice’s wife, She is taking a lot of backlash for marrying her abuser. Women marrying their abuser is actually very common, but goes unnoticed because their partner or themselves are not famous.This happens especially if there are children involved, they want the family to stay intact, and the violence to stop. If they rely on his paycheck, they want the paycheck to continue, and the violence to stop. Many victims love their abuser and what they want most is for that love to continue and the violence to stop. The one thing they don’t want to happen is for the abuser to go to jail. A jail sentence will temporarily stop the violence, but it ends the couple 's relationship, ruins the family and often leaves everyone devastated financially and emotionally. If victims believed that by coming forward they would not only be seeking help for themselves but for the men they love, victims would be much more likely to seek help. There is an opportunity for abusers to discuss, with other abusers and trained counselors, the source of their anger and their views toward women. The goal is to get abusers to recognize and work through the feelings and expectations that lead them to
