In order to keep top performers satisfied and productive, Steve Bates argues, there should be a substantial difference in the variable pay or merit- based salary increases that top performers and poor performers receive. Based on available research the increase needed to catch “anybody’s attention” should be a seven percent or eight percent increase in compensation. It also states that anything below that might be welcomed, but will not lead to substantially greater effort on the part of employees to increase business results.
` As Joe’s excitement mounted to give rides on his newly purchased boat, his joy soon turned to dread as one of his beloved passengers tumbled into the water. The author, Horatio Alger Jr., of “Joe’s Reward” writes a story of a hero named Joe, who rescues a wealthy man’s niece that ends with an offer of a reward. The text consists of Joe’s actions that happen to drive the plot using specific events. Throughout the story, Horatio uses myth-like elements, such as a damsel in distress, a heroic act, and the hero receiving and turning down a reward, to assist the plot in moving forward.
Michael P. Auerbach, a journalist that argues that school fees should not effect if you can play in sports or other school activities state's, “School administrators have begun charging fees for classroom supplies,school athletic programs,academic clubs, and other activities.” Which if you do not pay you do not get to participate. gTo me that is unfair. A kid that wants to be involved in a sport but cant just because of money. Michael P. Auerbach,a journalist that notices that, “In light of these current trends, most school districts in the united states have been forced to implement budgets that cut programs, reduce staff, and also close schools.”
2.5. Marketing Budget The Marketing Budget fully depends on the pro forma financial statement. This budget has been allocated based on the projected revenue. The most effective strategies will be used in order to reach the marketing objective. At least 25-30 percent of the revenue will be spent on marketing since we are entering into a new market.
According to the article titled Bureaucratic Failure in the Federal Government by Chris Edwards it states that “the rigid salary and benefits structure makes it hard to encourage improved employee efforts or to reward outstanding achievements.” This is not good because it can reduce the enthusiasm of the good workers to continue working hard because they are seeing the poor workers being rewarded equally. This can cause the bureaucracy hard to manage due to the fact that the best workers are more prone to leave while the bad workers will stay decade after decade because they will be compensated as if they work doing an excellent job. Subculture Skater dudes, biker chicks, frat boys and sorority girls are all member of a subculture. They are certainly part of the larger culture but are referenced as subculture because of the groups shared sense of identity and commonality. According to our textbook, “ethnic and racial groups share the language, food, and customs of their heritage. Other subcultures are united by shared experiences” (Griffiths, 63). Fraternities, secret clubs band together, cultivating collective and shared identities, referring to each other as brothers and sister, while participating in larger society as a whole.
The story I found to be the most interesting was "The Red, White, and Blue Badge". While reading this story I found it actually to be disturbing. I had never realized how the Japanese were treated outside of the camps. I had always knew that inside the camps they were treated poorly but I had not realized to this extent.
Argument Response to James Suroviecki’s “The Pay is Too Damn Low” In the New Yorker magazine on August 12, 2013, James Surovwiecki’s article “The Pay is Too Damn Low” was published. He lays out a good argument on the benefits of raising the minimum wage, but fails to address the complicated connection between low-cost goods and services that Americans have come to demand and the low minimum wage. If companies such as Wal-Mart, and McDonalds were to have to pay $15 an hour for their lowest paid employee’s, it stands to reason the added costs would be passed on to consumers. Would Americans revolt at the idea of paying nearly double for a “happy meal”, or a coffee maker?
Similarly, in Gregory Hamel’s article, “Negatives of Motivating Employees With Financial Rewards,” he explains that, when offered money, employees create an “every man for himself” tone which creates inconsistency within the workplace. Negative effects of an individualized workplace include a lack of communication amongst employees; coworkers will fight over work loads because the more work that is completed, the higher their bonus is. Furthermore, the inconsistency of monetary incentives may cause people to get a large bonus one year, and a small bonus the next: this can lead to a lack in confidence in their performance at work. This supports what the Braufman’s are concluding in their writing because it shows the negative effects monetary influences inflict upon people. This is a credible source because the author, Gregory Hamel, has a Bachelor’s degree of Arts in Economics and has written 3 novels since mid-2008.
Should Federal Minimum Wage be $15 an hour? The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 states that workers will be given a livable wage. By definition, a living wage is the minimum income necessary for a worker to meet basic needs. In the words of congress, it is “the minimum standard of living necessary for health, efficiency, and general well-being.”
Though a lot of people don’t mind having a bright and straight smile, it’s somewhat rare to find somebody who enjoys going to a children’s dentist, even for cleaning. The stress of having someone using metal picks, scrapers, tubes, and another kind of tools on your mouth is just too much to tolerate. However, a cheaper alternative would be to sincerely hold workers’ appreciation day every year. Workers of exemplary performance would receive employee benefits in the form of paid leave or extra percentage of wages for the year. A more effective method is to tie the workers’ wages with the performance of the company. Showing appreciations to the workers would effectively build the motivations of the workers. While tying their wages with the company’s performance would improve their efficiency.

Its purpose is to categorise and summarise the different types of costs. The information required in order to produce a break even chart are the fixed costs which are costs that are independent on the output produced, total costs which are costs that vary depending on product, variable costs, added to the fixed costs and the revenue is the total income by the sales of the particular product. The break-even is able to be calculated through the chart or through the formula of Break-Even.
