The book, “Nothing But The Truth” by AVI follows the story of a ninth-grade student named Philip Malloy. Philip Malloy is generally a good kid who is a great runner. The story starts with Philip working out and getting ready for the track season. He has been working for months for the upcoming season until the track coach, Coach Jamison, has to talk with him. Philip is told that he has a D in his English class which is a failing grade according to their school's handbook.
In Nothing But the Truth there is one thing that stood out to me throughout the entire book. The whole book is full of lies. Philip Malloy tells lies about everything and to everyone. He lies to his parents, the principal, and even to a reporter that is interviewing him. Throughout the book we continue to see the lies play out until the very end of the book when Philip finally decides to tell the truth.
This particular political cartoon appeals to ethos, logos, and pathos in a way that makes the message comical. This political cartoon is from the San Diego Union Tribune, and would be considered more liberal than conservative. The ethical appeal in this particular cartoon is shown by the two characters analyzing Donald Trump. He has a Bald Eagle comb over which suggests that he is indeed ‘serious’ about the election and for being only american in this country.
Sometimes individuals get so determined to reach their goal they become lost and find their selves blind to their original desire in the process. Throughout AVI’s nothing but the truth, Philip Malloy and his narrow minded attitude bounces from wanting to be a part of the track team to becoming allies with his homeroom teacher, Miss Narwin. Phil becomes distracted overtime which leads towards him making choices that end up affecting other character’s daily lives. Phil’s hate for Miss Narwin forces him to get kicked out of her class due to him humming which turns into neither Phil nor Miss Narwin being able to attend Harrison high school any longer. Philips regretful decisions ultimately lead to a undeserved loss of a career and a developed well
The people of the internet spread a rumor that a child sex trafficking ring was being held in a pizza parlor basement… albeit, said pizza parlor has no basement. Foster points out that the bandwagon mentality fueling this claim could all have been avoided if people actually thought for themselves. Everything that happened surrounding this allegation is the consequences of today’s public lacking general critical reading and thinking skills. Had those skills been present, the conflict and misinterpretation could have been avoided, as the “ many listeners and commentators” thought this was the “fake news” she was referring to (Foster 94). These people took that to mean her idea of “fake news” was simply news that she didn’t like.
Maureen Dowd’s article, “Game of Trump” (July 15, 2017), examines the “chaos” that consumes the current situation in American Politics, in which Dowd argues that the “chaos” results from Donald Trump becoming the president. Dowd uses a play on words to compare Washington to the fictional tv show, Game of Thrones. Dowd points out the critical flaws made by the president and his family in order to show Americans that if they pay close attention to the White House, they will see that Trump’s presidency is not beneficial to the country. Because the article’s content goes into politics and current events, in this case, criticizing Donald Trump’s presidency, Dowd writes for an educated audience that has a similar political bias. This article is significant
The book I read for the literature assignment was ‘All the Presidents Men’ By Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. ‘All the President’s Men’ tells the story of the Watergate scandal. From the personal accounts of the reporters who investigated it, Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. The author’s purpose in writing this book was to expose the truth and make sure the public had all the details about one of the biggest scandals in America’s history. The main theme of this book was dealing with fraudulent and crooked politics.
The image drawn by Jerry Holbert (image 1) and the image drawn by Tom Stiglich (image 2) are classic examples of political cartoons. They are similar in the fact that they are both about the North Korean and United States diplomatic debate. This debate is about if North Korea is a threat or not and if should something be done to stop them if they are. Although the two images cover the same topic, they show different viewpoints on how they believe America will handle the conflict. The key differences in how the political cartoons establish their purposes and achieve their persuasive techniques are through the balance of humor and symbolism.
Cartoons are expected to be, in nature, quaint and dense; something one would not typically associate with politics. Intertwined within their text and illustrations, political cartoons are, at their base, clever, witty jabs taken at various political situations and politicians in order to cause the reader to inflect and take a person stance on the situation. All of these responses simultaneously being accomplished through the behind-the-scenes scope of that the cartoonists who, as a rhetor, will typically look to skew or contort their audience’s view on a certain political subject. It is through this elaborate process of cartoon creation that various elements such as humor and are picked up along the way to help ease down the sometimes harsh content of political cartoons into something pleasing and easy to grasp. In his political cartoon, Steven Breen, compares presidential candidate Donald Trump to a super bug, illustrating the potential danger of his political direction through emphasis of cast, text, and kairotic timing to expertly guide his audience towards questioning how lucrative his leadership would be to our country.
The Fire That Burns Forever By Brandon Habursky Human history has traditions that have lasted for centuries. A tradition that has always been around is storytelling . We all have stories.
What makes this cartoon so intriguing is the complete opposites being represented. The evil and heartless side of the cartoon, as the peaceful and loving side of the cartoon, is cupid. This cartoon perfectly reveals the faults of the U.S. Government and Police institutions from this ridiculous and exaggerated cartoon. The humor in this cartoon connects with the incongruity to express Bramhall’s claim of the misuse of power within the United States. This cartoon successfully convinces the audience to understand the problem of the misuse of power around the United States through the use of incongruity and
Sometimes people feel as if they do not belong when they do not have the same way of doing things. The article “What is ‘community’ and why is it important?” by Toby Lowe argues that “a community is a group of people who share an identity-forming narrative.” In the short story, “The War of the Wall” the community misjudged her and thought she was disrespectful. In the story “The War of the Wall” the painter lady is accepted to the community when they realize she is honoring the community by painting the wall.

dubbing Prior a prophet, Marko of Cain, Judas’ betrayal of Christ, Lazarus resurrection, the importance of a sacred Book) could be applied to almost any character (Munoz 2006: 8). The reason for this, as mentioned, is Kushner’s desire to further expound on the idea of continuity through the use of religious images and references (Munoz 2006: 8). America was built by the adherents of these and other religions, most prominently Christianity, and all those pioneers who came centuries ago to the unknown land, brought with them different belief systems and customs, but in the end, they all had one thing in common–a desire for change and progress. On the other hand, another theme that Kushner extensively discusses through the perspective of religion
Fake news" is true to a certain point, because sometimes the media will alter stories so much that it will grab the attention of the reader. Getting only the truth from a media source is rare, because people will bias towards things to their liking compared to another
