This play is very relevant for modern day society especially in Seattle for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost, politics have been the center of attention of this entire country ever since the 2016 Presidential Election. When Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States of America, a shockwave was sent through the country that ultimately resulted in countless protests and riots across the states. A hotspot for these protests was undoubtedly Seattle, Washington. Here we are almost two years later and protests and politics as a whole are still very prevalent in the city of Seattle. For our characters, Claudius is President Donald Trump, Hamlet represents the people of the United States of America, and the ghost of Hamlet’s dead father is Trump’s travel ban that prevented individuals from 8 different countries from entering the United States. Our primary event is Trump issuing the executive order that put the travel ban into place. This takes the place of the primary event from Hamlet which is when Claudius murdered Hamlet’s father. This provides the motivation for our entire production, which is to attack this travel ban and put things back to the way they were before. In a sense, the way Hamlet sought revenge for the death of his father is the way the people of the United States are seeking justice to get rid of this travel ban in our production. The travel ban is the motivating factor behind everything. The inciting action takes place as the travel ban has been initiated and the shockwave and confusion is being sent through the country. There is mass confusion as to the meaning and purpose of this order as to why it was put into place and how it is even legal. This is similar to the inciting action in the real Hamlet as Hamlet struggles with uncertainty on whether or not he should trust the ghost. A major climax from our production is the beginnings of the aftermath of the travel ban. We see individuals unable to return to their loved ones in the United States and it starts to ultimately be shown just how real and legitimate this ban is. This is the point of realization just as we see in Hamlet when Hamlet stages the play to prove Claudius’ guilt. Our main climax is the mass protests that begin to take place across the country, predominantly in airports as people try to strike back in any way possible against this travel ban, the feeling of freedom has been lost as
