This huge chip to carry often leaves the victims feeling isolated, scared, full of shame, depressed, and with a low self-esteem(“Sexual Assault and Rapes”).
There needs to be more of an understanding from the communities, friends, and family, of the effects of sexual violence. The victims need understanding and not ridicule. Rejection can lead to many other problems. Some of the community believes the women now have a sickness which is a fear that lingers inside the victim. Many husbands do not want to be intimate or even touch their wives after a rape occurs.
The characters, especially men, in Courage Under Fire and Boys Don’t Cry do not accept or respect the characters who have different genders. They believe that they are better than the other characters, just because they are men. The men in Courage Under Fire either see Captain Karen Emma Walden as a hero and someone who deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor, or as someone who does not deserve the award just because she is a woman. “In the old days, strong sturdy women were almost admired” (Silko, 66), this quote from Yellow Woman and the Beauty of the Spirit show that just like the strong Laguna Pueblo women are admired, Captain Walden is also admired by multiple men in the film.

Growing up, I have always had an interest in geography and thinking about different countries and what makes them the way that they are. I have not been in a geography class since middle school and Human Geography was a class that made me think about things I have never thought of before. The readings of both Kropotkin and Mackinder brought up very interesting points, some that conflict and others that agree. Each author writes in a way that stimulates and makes you think about geography and certain topics in different ways which I find to be very rare in writings from this time period. Discussing Kropotkin’s and Mackinder’s general ideas, points they disagree or agree on, and my own views on the topic will all be discussed in this final paper.
Rape is an arduous subject, especially for children, parents understandably hope to shield their children from it. However, according to R.A.I.N.N, the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, 44% of sexual assault victims are under age 18. Whether people acknowledge it or not, the reality is this is a tragedy that happens to children. Ignoring the problem doesn’t change this fact. The Orange County Rape Crisis Center has ways to talk about rape with children at any age.
To me, a social injustice is an act in which an individual or group of individuals are not treated fairly based on his or her gender, sexuality, citizenship status, and/or ethnicity. social injustices arise when individuals, who should be considered as equals, are treated unequally. This is caused by barriers, such as racism, oppression, discrimination, and sexism. Social injustices will not be fixed until the individuals who do not respect others start realizing that it is not our differences that should be held against us, but embraced and glorified. Everyone is different, not one person is the same as the next.

Drug and alcohol use play role in this issue and contribute to the problem as most of the time the victim and perpetrators are under the effect of alcohol or any other drug during the incident.
