This book is a great representation of today's world. There is much good in the world, and there is much bad. Some days it may seem as if there is more bad than good. Dr. Jekyll is a normal man. While he has a good reputation among London, he does have his inner demons. Every person can relate to Dr. Jekyll, fighting a constant battle between good and evil. “All human beings, as we meet them, are commingled out of good and evil: and Edward Hyde, alone, in the ranks of mankind, was pure evil” (Stevenson 114). Some may argue that Dr. Jekyll did not create a drug to remove the evil parts of himself, he wanted to let the sins loose. He just started having impulses to do evil without consequences and had this mysterious drug he produced as an excuse. That is why he gave himself the title Mr. Hyde, because he wants to hide his sins from the public. This idea is a reality for many. People have always blamed their sins on stress, work, school or people. Perhaps instead of confessing his sins, Dr. Jekyll is just blaming it on his alter ego Mr. Hyde. Some people enjoy being bad and love the thrill of it. Are we good because we want to be or because we don't want to end up being punished or shamed? Hyde may sound like he is a separate person from Dr. Jekyll, but he is not. Dr. Jekyll becoming Hyde wasn't an accident, Jekyll intended to become Hyde to give an excuse for his desire to sin. Unfortunately, some people of this world love to do wrong. That may be why so many people are in prison for their wrong doing.
