“The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”
Romanticism and Modernism are both found in this novella “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Louis Stevenson. Modernism was found in the late 19th and early 20th century. The style was non-traditional writing format. It follows an individual instead of the “hero” and uses symbols to suggest meaning. There was a rejection of untraditional themes and subject matter. Everything holds truth. Romanticism was a movement during 1900-19500’s. Everything was to make sense. Romanticism was focused on gothicism and emphasis on emotion, faith, and physical appearance. Although there are sign of both writing forms are found in this novella, modernism is stronger.
