Treasure Island written by Robert Louis Stevenson, begins with the story of a young boy named Jim who works at the family inn, the Admiral Benbow, in early eighteenth century England with his mother and father. Billy Bones, and old sea captain, dies at the inn by a black spot after being chased. He dies while with a chest containing valuables. Jim and his mother soon take the valuables before they are discovered by Billy’s pursuers. Jim then realizes that that the documents he had taken from the chest are valuable and takes them to his friend Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawney. Aboard the ship, Jim overhears Long John Silver’s plans for mutiny and tells the captain about it. Once they arrive at the island, Smollet creates a plan in order to get the mutineers off of the ship and relax on the beach. Jim sneaks off the ship and onto a boat with the mutineers. After landing, he witnesses Silver executing one of the pirates who does not obey him. Frightened, Jim adventures further into the woods discovering Ben Gunn, a marooned pirate of Captain Flint's crew. In the meantime, Smollett and his remaining loyal crew have built and taken shelter of a stockade on shore. Ben and Jim then return to the stockade while Silver tries to negotiate a deal but Smollett refuses. The next day Jim sets out on his solo plan to cut the rope anchoring the ship, so no one is able to leave. Also at the same time Silver and his crew attack the stockade injuring Smollett. Jim manages to take control of the ship after killing Israel, a watchguard, but is wounded. Then Jim returns to the stockade only to find out it is crawling with mutineers. Then Silver takes Jim hostage, and demands for the map. However, Jim notices that Silver has problems maintaining his men and the two make a deal in order to
