I used purposive sampling to identify suitable candidates to take part in this study i.e. a drag impersonator that uses cosmetics as a tool to create an exaggerated form of femininity for the purpose of entertainment and self-expression. Not in the instance where drag is used primarily as part of a private sexual activity or identity. I worked closely with senior committee members of the University of Limerick’s LGBTQ society, OutInUL, who are aware of all members’ gender and identity issues they may be facing. The committee members helped to identify four main candidates that perform in drag on a continuous basis whose ages range from twenty to twenty-five years of age. The participants chosen, three drag queens and one drag king, all performed and began their drag careers in OutInUL’s annual amateur drag competition night, Alternative Miss/Mister University of \Limerick (AMUL).
