In this play, there are a lot of social elements at work within the structure of the community it takes place in. There is a social dynamic between the people police and the people. An example of this would be the officer who shot Benji. We don’t know exactly what happened but the entire incident seems to be put under a microscope due to the social prejudices that are underlying issuers in this community. The audience is also left wondering and trying to fill in the caps about what is happening as well as trying to learn the whole truth from the fragments of evidence they have.
Now that technology connects all corners of the Earth, Isabel Evans shares her input on the effects of social media. In her article, “Head in the (Instagrammed) Clouds” published by the Harvard Crimson in 2013, Isabel Evans discusses the impact of social media on everyday life. Evans’ purpose is to emphasize the role of these applications on the world. She uses a tone that is casual yet urgent to express her concern for the time wasted using social media. Throughout her article, Evans identifies with her audience, illustrates her ideas, and appeals to nostalgia to examine the negative effects of social media.
In her article “I Tweet, Therefore I am”, Peggy Orenstein states that people using social media live in a performance culture that erodes the very relationships it tries to create, and alienates them from the real world. When users post without conscious thought, the world goes from a stage to a reality television show where every move you make is broadcast. Studies have shown that living like this will result in a loss of empathy. People can not put themselves in other 's shoes because they already know every detail of the person 's life already. Orenstein also states that people form their identities based off of their social media persona.
Social media connects us to so much but leaves us disconnected from reality. My generation and I have played into this social media world where we worry more about how many likes, views, and interactions we get on a daily basis to make us feel connected. The author Nick Bilton, writes “Disruptions: More Connected, Yet More Alone” which was published in 2013 in the New York Times. The author argues that we as a society tend to overuse social media in a way which can be perceived as downright dystopian. Bilton starts building his main points with personal facts and credibility, factually based data and reasoning, and conveying how ethics and emotion play in our social media crazed society.
Finally although i was never professionally an actor, I have learned that my discourse community has taught how to channel my emotions not only in my work and on the stage but in my writing. It has taught me how to use the vocabulary needed to express my ideas and feelings on paper. My discourse community has taught me so many lessons that I will use throughout life, I’m sure I would have no learned them
The Greeks were the first to introduce the concept of theater. As a matter of fact, one performer, Thespis, created the idea of a chorus, which was a group of people that expressed opinions, gave advice, and had the author’s point of view. The chorus would be the equivalent to the “score” in modern theater. The International Thespian Society, an organization formed to honor student’s success in the theater, was named after Thespis. In Greek theater, the place that the actors performed was called the “paraskene,” while in modern theater it is called the stage.

“Requiem For A Dream” tells the story of hope slowly and surely decaying in the lives of four distinct individuals, dealing with socialization, alienation, mores and even social class to create the scenarios each person faces. From wanting just happiness, down to desiring a better life, these were all corrupted towards the end. Although it is a film exemplifying poverty and everyday lives of the working poor with goals in life, much more sociological issues arise in the film relating to each and every character: Sara, Harry, Marion, and Tyrone. Socialization within society connects the characters to their individual issues that starts their downhill role in the film.

Social media has a major effect on today’s society. People are being manipulated, influenced, and even brainwashed from apps and websites they use every day. Social media is used to hold social interactions, promote events or products, and keep people up to date on all kinds of news. Because social media can do so much for its users, it basically controls every aspect of their lives. In Aldous Huxley’s, “Brave New World”, social media wasn’t controlling their society, but other technologies like the Bokonovsky’s Process, the Feelies, and Soma were.

Like Shakespeare, Goffman used the theory of life being like the theatre whereby we are ourselves are the actors and we play roles. There is also various settings, props, and audiences.
