“Requiem For A Dream” tells the story of hope slowly and surely decaying in the lives of four distinct individuals, dealing with socialization, alienation, mores and even social class to create the scenarios each person faces. From wanting just happiness, down to desiring a better life, these were all corrupted towards the end. Although it is a film exemplifying poverty and everyday lives of the working poor with goals in life, much more sociological issues arise in the film relating to each and every character: Sara, Harry, Marion, and Tyrone.
Socialization within society connects the characters to their individual issues that starts their downhill role in the film. Sara was a regular widow with dreams of appearing on a television show once

Take for instance the final interaction Sara has with her old friends, upon first sight of each other, they both knew they had forever lost one another for the process that had taken created the ultimate divide between the two, and this is a relatable topic to the modern world. I have personally seen the separation between an ex and myself. Drugs drove us apart and as we each went on with our lives I can see it has taken over his life. The boxes that classified the “normal” and “not normal” within the walls of society have strengthened and when the characters try to go back to “normal” they are not allowed for it was too late for them the same way it is for my ex. They are forever with the alienated box of society when only trying to follow through with their dreams. Towards the end, Sara, Harry, Marion, and Tyrone are shown, each alone, in their own personal environment away from others remembering the times that each one of them belonged in society.
