Have you ever had a dream of being chased and you woke up sweating, out of breathe and your heart is beating so fast? Have you ever stopped and wondered how your dreams work and what they mean? Or have you ever wondered how they even occur? Although some think that dreams have meanings, it turns out that dreams have no meaning whatsoever. Many people have different ideas as to why we have dreams and their meanings behind them. It is said that the Greeks and Romans were convinced to believe that dreams could predict the future, but now there are many theories on whether dream actually mean something or not (Atherton). A theory introduced by Harvard University psychiatrists, John Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley started, “Dreams don 't actually mean anything. Instead they are merely electrical brain impulses that pull random thoughts and imagery from our memories. The theory suggests that humans construct dream stories after they wake up. This is a natural attempt to make sense of it all.” (Atherton). A big question that a lot of people asks themselves is, why do we dream? “Some researchers say dreams have no purpose or meaning and are nonsensical activities for the sleeping brain. Others say dreams are necessary for mental, emotional, and physical health.” (Facts About Dreams). Another thing is that studies have seen the importance of dreams helping our health and life (Facts About Dreams). Some studies that have been done, have found that people who don 't dream have
