Dreams are building blocks for people in substandard situations. In the book “Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck” he states how the dream that Lennie and George had was what kept them together and working. Dreams are the inspirations for a new beginning.
Building blocks are what we need to reach goals and to keep our belief strong. In Of Mice and Men Lennie and George had to work to earn money for their dream. Their dream of getting their own ranch wasn’t going to happen if they didn’t have their own building blocks by working and making their mistakes in life. When George would torment Lennie when he was younger that was a building block for him to take Lennie underneath his wings and really be there for Lennie. When people are in substandard situations their dreams can be a mental escape for them. Even though your environment stays the same you can change how you cope with your environment. In Of Mice and Men Lennie and George were in a recess on their journey because of them having to move. The ranch was an escape for Lennie, but also for George too because it kept them on the path to achieve the goal of having their own ranch. The ranch was their dream and if they were ever in doubt they had to remember where they are trying to go. If George and Lennie didn’t have that escape they might’ve split up and George wouldn’t have to worry about Lennie. Then, Lennie would’ve been lost and maybe dead before George stepped in. Dreams are escapes for people in a difficult position. Difficult positions could turn out worse than they need to because of how people react and cope with the situation.
