1. Are you happy with what you produced on this assessment? Explain why you are or are not. I am not happy with my current test grade because it doesn't reflect the amount of work I put into reviewing for this test. I’ve put more reviewing time for this math assessment than any other math test I’ve ever taken.
His particular approach based on the chronological series of historic events clearly explains the process that transformed cocaine from being a medical commodity to an illicit drug. In “Andean cocaine”, nothing is left to chance, the author is able to clearly explain the causes and the consequences that connect all the events, countries and people in the infamous history of coke. What I found extremely captivating of the book was its relation to several study fields: from medicine to anthropology, or from history to geography, without forgetting to mention branches of politics and sociology, “Andean Cocaine” offers readers from different backgrounds an enriching reading. The book by Gootenberg represents an incredible useful source of knowledge not only for a novice reader who is looking for an introduction to the history of cocaine, but also for a specialist in the field who wants to have a more general overview on how different agents, countries and time periods are all connected to coke’s marketisation process. My opinion on the book in conclusion is genuinely positive.
1. What were your results for the test? Were these results surprising to you? Why or why not? a.
The video that I have chosen is Jayz War on Drugs (Epic Fail). This video informs you on how the war on drugs was started by Richard Nixon in 1971. It also describes how the war on drugs had a negative effect on the African Americans rather it be their families, communities, and schools. The movie The House I live in, describes the war on drugs as black hats vs white hats basically the good guys against the bad guys. In both videos it was discussed how poor neighborhoods were the target for drug bust areas.
EMS Response to Opiates As I approached the scene I saw two Suffolk County police department sector cars on scene and a first responder. This was a summer evening, you could still feel the humidity lingering in the air. Over the radio, the cops relayed that CPR was in progress. I approached the house, entered using the side entrance.
For my community service assignment, I assisted the local Narcotics Anonymous chapter in cleaning out one of their many daily meeting places. Narcotics Anonymous is a global non-profit organization which overviews an extensive drug abuse recovery program which utilizes strict tenets in an overarching support-group style program to facilitate recovery from drug abuse. Narcotics Anonymous has no official leaders and little overall structure, aside from a collection of basic agreed upon texts that are distributed to chapters worldwide, which lay out the basic tenets of the NA program in full for members to follow. Instead, there is one central Narcotics Anonymous organization that organizes annual conventions, distributes organization texts,
Look at the world and think about what has changed over the past centuries and see if we can determine why it has now become what it is today. Our history has plenty of technologies and other products that have risen in the past five or six centuries, but now have changed a bit that might not be good. Almost everyone has some type of habit in their lives that they deal with and some are worst than others, but a habit can lead many down the wrong path if the habit is used extensively. The book that I read was Forces of Habit and it deals with the history of alcohol to drugs that we know of today.
This goes to show the reason people so strongly want testing is to clarify the well being of the citizens their money is going to so that the money they spend is not wasted. In order to get a job you will most likely have to be drug tested, welfare is set up so you will eventually be able to get a job (“Drug Testing for Welfare Recipients: Pro”). This is to show that the taxpayers want to donate enough money to help recipients get back on their feet. Most jobs even require you to pass a drug test in order to work there. It is important for our community to remain healthy and sound in times of poverty.
Besides the success cocaine brought Coca cola, news articles in the late 1880’s were full of promise and enthusiasm when regarding cocaine. One articled claimed that “no modern remedy has been received by the profession (of medicine) with such enthusiasm, none has become so rapidly popular, so scarcely any one has shown so extensive a field of useful application as cocaine” (Iron County Register). Newspapers even began publishing articles that used Freud and Hammond as their sources, claiming that cocaine “is unquestionably of very great value and entirely harmless” (The McCook
How do you think the average American feels when he pays taxes to the government, just to know that it is going to people who use the money to buy drugs? According to Missouri, Oklahoma, Utah, Mississippi, Kansas, Tennessee, and Arizona only 10% of people receiving welfare are getting caught using drugs, the reason we only catch a small amount is the state government tells the recipients when they are drug testing them. In the technology we have today we can tell if a person is on drugs by three ways one way is urine, another way is blood and the last way is hair. These ways to drug test recipients are all efficient and effective. The most effective way is if you use hair to see if someone is using drugs you can usually tell for about 9 days it also depends on what drug they are using.
The Downside of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients To continue receiving benefits, should welfare recipients be drug tested? This is the controversial question that continues to go around the world. Many people believe that drug testing welfare recipients is unnecessary. People believe that drug testing recipients would waste taxpayer’s money, stop people from asking for government help, and go against people’s constitutional rights. There are many reasons why people oppose drug testing welfare recipients.
The idea that children would lose their own benefits has also been a controversial topic that has been defied by the third-party tactic put-forth by these states. Despite intensive research, Florida and Oklahoma were the only states that allotted information discerning how they chose to pay for the welfare drug tests. Both states had differing payment methods which leads to the conclusion that each state has their own individual plan of action to cover these costs. Just as each state may or may not have their own payment tactic, each state does have their own views and conclusions about how drug testing welfare recipients has affected them. Oklahoma 's Rep. Guy Liebmann said "If we as taxpayers are basically employing the recipients of welfare,
There are plenty of people who disagree with the drug testing. They believe it cost too much money and is a waste. Some think it should only be required to those who have a history of drug abuse. Well that’s all good and well, but what is a
