Dry ice is one of the coldest and most dangerous kinds of ice you’ll ever see. Dry ice can be made by blowing the fire extinguisher into a pillow case.Dry ice exerts carbon dioxide when it goes through sublimation. Sublimation is when the surface particles of a solid gain enough energy that they form gas. During Sublimation, particles of a solid. As a solid substance sublimates into a gas, the relative freedom of motion of its particles increases. Dry ice is the common name for solid carbon dioxide. As it changes state, the carbon dioxide absorbs thermal energy. Did you know that, if warmer materials are placed near dry ice, they will lose thermal energy and become colder? Scientific Concepts :- Sublimation- The sublimation is when the dry …show more content…

Hypothesis: We think that the more Dry Ice we put in the balloon will make it bigger because as their is more dry ice there will be more gas and carbon dioxide exerted by the dry ice when you put water over it. Design an Experiment: Materials list :- Dry Ice Empty water bottle Water A balloon (preferably colorless) Metric ruler Procedure :- First, grab the water bottle and fill it with about 10g of dry ice. Next, pour about 15 ml of water each time you put the dry ice in the bottle. When you see the fog coming out of the bottle, quickly stretch out the balloon and put the top of it at the mouth of the bottle. You will notice that the balloon will start growing quickly but doesn’t have to be completely filled up depending on how much dry ice you inserted. Measure the length of the balloon after its completely grown in about 5 mins each time. repeat steps 1-5 but add 10 g of dry ice each time you do the trial and make sure to measure the balloon length each and every time you do the trial. Collect & Interpret :- Trials Manipulated Variable(dry ice) Responding Variable(length of balloon) 1 10g 16cm 2 23g 27cm Average 16.5 21.5 Graph …show more content…

Temperature is determining how hot or cold something is and heat is just how hot something is. A drink gets cooler when you put a ice cube in it because the cold ice melts and spreads cold water around the drink. No, phases have different chemical property because each phase is different than the other one. New questions is how does dry ice melts, Does it melt fast or slow? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surface tension questions: The action of sticking to a surface or object. The action of forming a bond. The dry ice left toxic fumes which entered the balloon to expand it. It comes down in droplets because they condense slowly so they fall down one at a time not all at once. The water becomes a sphere because the water drops gets shaped up on the way down due to the pressure of air. The higher the surface tension, The more molecules can stay together --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------V Viscosity questions A substance that has high viscosity is honey A substance that has low viscosity is water The viscosity range is
