Having Mexican roots is beautiful. Mexican culture is very extensive and. One of the special things in Mexican culture is celebrating parties of all kinds, from weddings, quinceañeras, etc. to birthday parties. Mexican parties are huge most of the time, because that is how they are, very cheerful. There is a lot of color decorating stuff and joy from the parents to the kids. That is when piñatas come. Piñatas are one of the most fun moments of the party for the children. They are huge figures made from mache paper, which is a lot coats of old and unused newspaper glued with “engrudo”, and then decorated with a lot of crepe colored paper. The materials that you need are a huge balloon, newspaper, scissors, liquid glue, crepe colored paper, seven or eight sheets of cardboard, and a medium brush. You will also need flour and water which you may have at home already. For the procedure, you might want to get some coveralls to protect your clothes. The first step to start making the piñata is to gather and prepare the materials in your work area. Rip or cut off with the scissors a lot of medium to big pieces of newspaper. Also prepare the “engrudo” with which you will stick the mache paper. To prepare it, you need to put boil water, the flour, and the liquid paper in a pot. It will be ready when it has a thick consistency. The next step to start building your piñata is to inflate the balloon that will serve as a mold, to the size desired. Then with some rope, you need to hang the balloon from a static surface. After that, it is time to start sticking the strips or pieces of newspaper to the balloon. To do that, start with dumping the brush into the glue mixture, start coating the balloon with it, and as you go also place the newspaper pieces in an evenly manner before the glue starts drying. But remember to leave the top part of the balloon free of the mache paper; this will be the hole where you will insert all the candies.
