The first thing was going to look at is the punishment of bilbo that the Puritans used. Bilbo was a punishment used against sinners and lawbreakers. The bilbo is a heavy iron bar that has two sliding shackles with a lock. In the shackles are the legs of the offenders, who are then locked with a paddle. Sometimes the chain at the end of the bilbo is connected to another bilboes or just to the wall or even the floor. Although this method was simple it was very effective. There are two ways a trial can go for a person. They could be counted innocent or guilty. If a person is guilty of something that they had done they could receive this punishment. The accused will be at the end of the pond; as the people who were convicting the person are at the other end. The people at the end will lower the other down into the water. If the person floats then they are thought to have been a witch. If they were floating they were thought to have been using their powers to make them float. Most of the time when people are found to be guilty accused the receive to duckstooling punishment. This technique is put over a local pond and in front of the people of the town. This will drown the people who are thought to be a witch. Although the true torture began after one person was proven to be a witch. The Puritans were a group of people that were discontented with the church in England. The moved from England because it was expected to have religious, moral and social reforms. They lived by the bible because they believed that the Bible was the very true law of God. Although they rejected the church's authority. They were seeking to purify of a not only church but also their everyday lives. After the Puritans were clergy were alienated from the church of England than thousands of the were seeking freedom. They wanted to be in a place that they could practice their religion. They then migrated to the New England V( America), especially around the Massachusetts Bay. They moved to the new land around the years of 1630 to 140. They then formed a tight-knit community and devoted their lives to god. The Puritans lived a very strict and religious lifestyle. It was mandatory for the villagers to go to church every day. If they were not present at church they would receive a punishment. Usually the punishment for not attending church one or even two times it was just looked down upon. Although if a person were to not show up multiple times they could be accused of using that time out of there day when others were busy to practice witchcraft. The Puritans were very godly people.
