Every hockey player knows of the 1980 miracle on ice where the young American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date. This exact scenario was portrayed in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by Gavin O’Conner. The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career. The entire speech relates back to the theme of seizing opportunity; he starts with saying “Great moments are born with great opportunity, and that’s what we have here tonight.”
On November 7, my family and I were invited to attend a quinceanera. A quinceanera is a traditional celebration of life and gratitude to the fifteenth birthday of a young Hispanic girl. It is believed that it was first celebrated by the Aztecs and Mayans and was adapted by the Spanish Catholics that conquered South America. The ancient Mexicans, or Aztecs, had many ceremonies to mark passages through the stages of life. This ritual emphasizes the young girls journey into womanhood and to announce her new social role to the entire community.
As I roll down the window, I felt the breeze gently touching my left cheek as I smell the amazing scent of pine trees. I really can't believe that the day has finally come, the day when I celebrate my quinceañera. Quinceañera is an important event in the Hispanic community and it’s when a 15 year old girl turns into a woman. My godfather finally hit the brakes on the mini white Toyota truck and said “we’re finally here.” I open the door and set a foot on the ground, the look of astonishment has plastered into my face.
Maeve Croucher Mr. Marando English 10 Honors 10 March 2023 Trial Statement Speech Honored jurors, esteemed judges, and witnesses: welcome. I am very grateful for the opportunity to bring justice in this court today. As the ruler of the gods and skies, I am excited to share my wisdom and knowledge from my many years of ruling over Greece. We have gathered here today to put Creon, an innocent man, on trial for tyranny and treason. Let me make this perfectly clear: Creon’s law was not perfect.
I was very honored to know that I qualified as a possible candidate for the National Honor Society. To be honest, I never thought of being in the National Honor Society. Therefore, when I got pulled out of class I immediately thought I had done something wrong. I went home that day and told my mom about it. My mom looked me in the eyes and told me that she was very proud of me and gave me a big hug.
In the years leading up to the American Revolution, there was a tense relationship between the colonists and their British rulers. Large gatherings in the colonies to discuss the grievances caused by the actions of the British were common. Patrick Henry applies the rhetorical strategies of allusions and repetition in his “Speech in the Virginia Convention” to assert that the colonists should believe fighting for their freedom and rights is necessary and that they must fight as soon as possible. Although Henry has rather radical beliefs in comparison to the other members of the Convention, he connects with them through religious and literary allusions that are able to convince them of his assertions. In his speech, Henry alludes to
Hi Jaqueline, I really liked how you started your speech by defining poverty and saying that it is condition about choice and lack of freedom, that was a great way to hook your audience. As the speech went on, I had more questions and felt like pieces were missing. I would have liked to hear more about jane as well as other families and their lives. Something I think you should be conscience of is tone of voice and cadence. There was not a lot of fluctuation in your voice and the pace of your voice stayed the same.
Goal for my audience: I want my audience to get to know the impact Pi Beta Phi has made on my life. Introduction “When you’re a Pi Phi, you will find a support system like no other. The bond of sisterhood means that you will be surrounded by amazing women that will push you to become the best you can be, offer advice and support in times of need, and help you laugh and have fun through your college years. It doesn’t matter what competitions we win or what awards we receive; what matters is that everyone is allowed to be themselves and each member makes friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.”
The various ideologies of love mentioned by speakers in Plato’s Symposium portrayed the social and cultural aspect of ancient Greece. In the text, there were series of speeches given by Phaedrus, Pausanias, Eryximachus, Aristophanes, Socrates, and Agathon about the idea of love, specifically the effect and nature of Eros. Within the speakers, Agathon’s speech was exceptional in that his speech shifted the focus of the audience from effect of Eros on people, to the nature and gifts from the Eros. Despite Agathon’s exceptional remarks about Eros, Socrates challenged Agathon’s characterization of Eros through utilization of Socratic Method.

Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Students, tonight we honor your achievements in the areas of Scholarship, Citizenship, Responsibility, Community Service, Character, and Leadership as we recognize and celebrate the choices, and at times the sacrifices, you have made. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it."
On November 13th, 1969, Spiro Agnew, who was the Vice President at the time, gave the speech, Television News Coverage, about how news producers are becoming too powerful (Bibliography.com.) To successfully inform his audience, he uses many rhetorical strategies to keep everyone engaged and attentive. Agnew delivered an exceptional speech by using multiple techniques such as analogies, anaphoras, parallelism, and rhetorical questions to justify this problem to his audience. To help his audience understand what is being addressed, Agnew uses analogies to connect his ideas to familiar objects.
I positively believe women's freestyle figure skating is the best Winter Olympic sport ever to be played. Reasons why this is obviously true are: When you practice for figure skating you benefit from plenty of other exercises, such as flexibility and speed. While enjoying a fun and positive practice you can build your balance, along with boosting your self confidence to help with all your glides, twirls, and turns. All your stress you get from pressure can be lost as you glide across the ice unlike a more intense game such as hockey: where you have to keep track of the puck and other players while trying to be efficient. Consequently when you gracefully glide across the ring, you will be reminded of all the amazing figure skating athletes
