When she first takes Ivy under her wing she describes her wardrobe as tragic, and her hair as obviously box dyed. Alexandra is shedding light on the facts that if you don’t have the cash to spend on fancy clothing and hair treatment than you just aren’t worth the time. Alexandra then uses her money to buy Ivy the new things she “needs” to make friends and become popular.
It was much better than I had anticipated before reading it. Wes Moore is a strong author who properly used writing mechanics to deliver powerful scenes and great messages. I would say that the main theme of this book is the importance of education in adolescent life and that small things really can make all of the difference. The author Wes Moore 's life appeared very dull in comparison to the other Wes Moore 's; however, it was Wes Moore 's life that would provide quotes that inspire or were otherwise relatable to MAST life. “Don’t Call Me Ishmael”, written by Michael Gerard Bauer is a humorous novel that interacts with the readers especially young readers by exploring what high school is like for those who are being bullied and harassed but it also explores different stages of how friendships first develops. The protagonist who is a 9th grader named Ishmael Lesseur is sticking to the shadows and staying out of everyone’s way especially Barry Bagsley who has target Ishmael and has been harassing him since first day of year 8 at St Daniels Boys Collage. Throughout the book Ishmael struggles with identifying who he is and what he is worth.
