Charlie’s Journey Charlie Gordon experienced many positive things during his surgery. One thing he went through is falling in love with Mrs.Kinnian. Charlie says “I don’t understand why I never noticed how beautiful Miss. Kinnian really is.”
His findings also make him feel happy which is great to come from a discovery which he made after the surgery. In Charlie’s last progress report when he is saying personal goodbyes to everyone who helped him on the journey to becoming smart, he mentions, “Evry body feels sorry... I dont want that... Im going someplace where nobody knows that Charlie Gordon was once a genus and now he cant even reed a book or rite good [sic],” (Keyes 27). Charlie is moving out of New York because he does not want people to feel sorry for him anymore.
In the novel Scat,the dynamic character is Nick. first,at the beginning of the story Nick used to be a person who was afraid of Mrs.Starch. He even used to be scared to raise his hand in her class,but that changed. He became brave when he climbed the tree just to save the panther’s life. Second,as the story goes he starts to lie and begins to skip school.
In most novels, many characters develop new characteristics from the events and experiences they endure. Billy Colman grows and changes in many ways throughout the novel. This makes him dynamic. A dynamic character is one who changes from the beginning of the story to the end. Characters become dynamic by gaining character traits through the things they experience, much like Billy.
Firstly Charlie's relationships,friendships change from before the operation and after the operation, show ignorance is bliss. Before the operation Charlie had friends from the factory , their names were Frank, and Joe. Charlie thought that his friends were
i’m ashamed. ”(Keyes 11). Charlie also realized that he really liked Miss kinnian. A quote from the book says “I don’t understand why I never noticed how beautiful Miss Kinnian really is. ”(Keyes 15).
To emphasize, Charlie ran away from home since he knew that he was going to die. “Thats why 1m going away from New York for good. I dont want to do nothing like that agen.” (Keyes 21). A few weeks after the operations, Charlie knew that his brain was shrinking because he started to do research on Algernon who had received the same operations.
The surgery worked at first, but then he gradually lost his newfound intelligence. Even Though he ended up where he began, his life was very different. Although Charlie had a nice life before the surgery, it allowed him to realize that some parts of his life were different than he thought they were and because of this he was better off after the surgery. Throughout the story Charlie begins to realize that some of his best friends actually are just making fun of him because of his low intelligence.
Everything else wore out” (Fitzgerald 8). This statement shows Charlie’s desire to go back in time and fix his mistakes in order to redeem himself and prove that he is truly dedicated to becoming a changed man. It also shows that he realizes what he had done was wrong which was a big change for Charlie as well, giving the fact he spent most of his life drinking and living a bad lifestyle, his decision to give it all up and turn himself around is probably the most important
This suggests that Charlie is comfortable in his occupation and enjoys his time there. He joked around with his co-workers and was very reliable, barely missing work. Charlie says, “People don't talk to me much any more or kid around the way they used to. It makes the job kind of lonely (Keyes 295)”. Charlie notes about how after the surgery people are scared of him and of his newfound intelligence.
After the surgery happened Charlie started to understand more of what was going on around him. For an example ,he would read a book and then he would understand what he was reading about. Also, he started to spell better, you can see a big difference of writing from the first journal to the seventh or eighth journal. Charlie also could understand the feelings that people could express, for example, later in the book he started feeling things for Mrs Kinnian, and he started expressing them in his own form.
Charlie Feehan is the main protagonist in the novel, The Runner. Charlie changes how he sees the world from three experiences. Charlie changed when his father dies. Charlie also changed after he fought Mr Peacock and Finally, Charlie changed when he shows empathy towards Squizzy’s debtors.
Before Charlies operation he was not able to express his feelings accurately, but Charlies temporary intelligence
In The Color Purple written by Alice Walker dynamic characters shape the storyline. A dynamic character is a character who changes throughout a story as a result of the conflicts they encounter during their journey. A perfect example of a dynamic character is Miss Celie. Throughout her life Celie faces challenges that she conquers by standing up despite her fears. Regardless of her oppression she takes a stand and changes her fate.
For example, on page 299, “I felt sick inside as I looked at his dull, vacuous smile, the wide bright eyes of a child, uncertain but easy to please. And I had been laughing at him too. Suddenly, I was furious at myself and all those who were laughing at him.” Here, Charlie was realizing that people were mean and rude to people who weren’t like them. That people looked down to people who were different than them or not as smart.
