Donald Bruce Dawe’s literature makes society cognisant on the painful realities that are of the raw and dehumanising truth that plague this world. Donald Bruce Dawe, an Australian poet. His literature is predicated unto the dehumanising and defamatory experiences that he, the inditer himself had experienced through his time in the army, the RAAF. Though his literature, he conveys an opinionated point-of-view, urging the audience to optically discern the exploited and flawed practices of the regime. In Divergent, some of the simplest things in everyday life are controlled by the faction’s rules. The government seems to have taken over fairly quickly. The main question is why does dystopian literature appeal so much to the young adults, what is making dystopian literature so entertaining?
What is the difference between a dystopian society to our society? How about the similarities between the two societies? There are definitely many discernible unorthodoxness in a dystopian society versus the “real world” like the fact, that a dystopian society is more grotesque, to the point that it’s boring. On the other hand, there are plenty enough similarities like, how both societies strive for better, a utopia. In other words, dystopia compared to society, more specifically dystopian society, education systems, rules/laws, and family between our society’s education systems, rules/laws, and family, is substantially different, but there are some associations that could be made.
The government told the human race that nothing is wrong, it was just the citizens’ fear of the worst. So people did not worry about their lack of food or unsafe working conditions because they had no reason to distrust the government. They never realized that their idea of a utopia slowly slipped through their grasp. Rather than maintaining utter perfection in respect of laws, politics, customs, and conditions, the government remained in oppressive societal control; everything appeared ideal, but once examined closer, the true horrors came to light.
How Does 1984 Conform to, or Deviate From, the Conventions of Dystopia, and For What Purpose? 1984 was written by George Orwell in 1948 and it is a dystopian novel. The novel takes place in a futuristic time period in a section of the world called “Oceania”. Oceania is led by the Party, whose leader is Big Brother, and they control everything that happens in Oceania. The Party and Big Brother are constantly watching their citizens through telescreens, which are large screens that are placed throughout Oceania like modern day surveillance cameras.
