Today, the largest and most followed religion in the world is Christianity. It is the most popular religion in many countries, including the United States, and Great Britain. According to Regents’ Prep, Christianity is the dominant religion in North America, South America, Europe and Russia.With the help of the disciples of Jesus, Christianity spread in many areas of the world. It originated in Judea (present day Israel) around 30 C.E, and was founded by Yeshua of Nazareth. Yeshua, now referred to as Jesus Christ, was born to a woman named Mary in 4 B.C.E in the Jewish province of the Roman Empire, Palestine. The name “Jesus” derived from the Greek form of his Hebrew name “Yeshua”, and “Christ” from the Greek form of “Messiah”, or the “anointed one”. Some of the pivotal figures in early years of the “Jesus Movement” were Yeshua of Nazareth, Paul of Tarsus, and James the Just. As the years went on, Jesus christ’s followers grew and were known as christians. Christianity was developed from Judaistic beliefs in the 1st century C.E. and that is why many early Christians were Jews, including Jesus and his disciples. People argue rather than assent to the fact that because they believe in the trinity, they are polytheistic; but insist that they are all the same and that portrays that they are monotheistic. Therefore, they remain by the eyes of the world, a monotheistic religion. The only Christian deity known today, goes by the name of God, the Father. It is believed that he is the one who created the universe, knows everything, and is everywhere. Jesus is recognized as the Son of God, and was sent to save mankind from death and sin after being executed during crucifixion and rising at the Resurrection.
