Eating disorders “To lose confidence in one’s body is to lose confidence in oneself.” -Simone De Beauvoir. Just because people don’t think they’re beautiful, doesn’t mean they aren’t. However, not everyone believes that, they feel they are too fat or not pretty enough and that can lead to eating disorders developing.
Eating disorders a concern among teenagers today! First, people of all ages, mostly teenagers, can have eating disorders. The most common eating disorder is starvation. However, mostly teenagers have this problem because they think that they’re too fat or not pretty enough. Teenagers could be starving themselves and not knowing it. An eating disorder can affect someone’s jobs, family, and relationships. If someone is starving themselves and their family notices, it can cause their family to worry about that person and that person could be doing worse at their job, due to the lack of food. If someone has an eating disorder where all they do is eat, they get overweight and that can affect their personal life. That person won’t be able to move around as much due to weight gain, therefore that person could lose their job and them being overweight could affect their personal relationships with their family, girlfriend/boyfriend, and brothers and sisters.If someone is overweight, they won’t be able to move around and that can cause them to have serious health problems and they could even die from too much food and not enough exercise. Teenagers aren’t always happy with how they look so, if they feel too fat, they make themselves throw up or they use pills that make them not have an appetite so they starve themselves. People do this because they want to look thinner and look prettier, but they don’t care how they feel on the inside. Most of the time teenagers want to do this because they’ve been bullied and if people say that person is “too fat” or “not pretty enough” that can cause them to try to make themselves look thinner. People can make themselves thinner in different ways, making themselves throw up, starving themselves, and by using medicine that makes it so they don’t have an appetite. Teenagers feel the need to make themselves meet the standards of the world and they feel they need to impress and “fit in” with the world instead of being proud of who they are and how they look. In conclusion, eating disorders are a big concern among teenagers today and there should be more awareness of eating
