What are the inequalities of mannequins?
In every window of every boutique and store, there’s a petite, pale mannequin representing the modern day women. In society today, the average woman is not someone who is 5’3” and no more than 100 pounds. We are sending out unrealistic expectations to not only women, but to adolescents as well. Having these vague mannequins in stores and on websites can cause negative effects on not only women but men as well. In order to promote all body types, there should be more inclusive mannequins in our stores and on websites, to support all different types of body images around the United States. No one ever realizes the fact that the representation of mannequins are racist. Mannequins are not just a representation of body image, but a representation of Caucasian body images. By making these mannequins white, it makes African American women and young girls feel that their inferior to white women. All skin should be considered worthy of showing in stores, not just white skin. There has never been a store where there was a darker skinned …show more content…

One eating disorder that is very common amongst all ages and genders is, Anorexia Nervosa. Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by weight loss and difficulties maintaining your weight. People with this disorder, manage their amount of calories each day. Then there is, Binge Eating Disorder, which is a life-threatening and treatable disorder that is characterized by inaccessible eating. When people binge eat, they eat often times when they are not hungry, eating alone because of shame of their behavior. Another eating disorder is Bulimia Nervosa, which is consuming large amounts of food followed by behaviors to prevent weight gain. Someone with this disorder, will cause themselves to vomit.
