Eating Disorders Among Young Women In today’s society, women are expected to become to the world’s ideal definition of beauty and perfection. When women feel that they cannot physically meet this criteria, they turn to other solutions to help them feel better. One solution many young women are exploring is eating disorders. Eating disorders are becoming an increasingly larger problem among the younger female population. Popular culture has a huge tole on the way the younger generation of women see themselves. It controls every aspect of a young woman’s mind. It controls how she thinks, speaks, acts, and behaves. According to popular culture, the ideal definition of beauty is constantly changing. Worsnop explains how Barbie has an affect on young women. “Popular icons like Mattel's Barbie doll are blamed by some for giving young girls unrealistic ideas about the female figure.
