Eating Habits In The 1920's

The eating habits of Americans changed in the 1920’s. They began to eat fewer starches and more sugar and fruit. The biggest change was the demand for processed food, where before wives made meals from scratch. World War I brought canned and frozen foods. Initially the lead used to make the cans got into the food and caused people health problems. Once this was fixed, however, the demand skyrocketed. A variety of manufactured food was introduced in the 1920’s, much of which is still around around today. Examples include Baby Ruth Candy Bars, Wonder Bread, Yoo-Hoo chocolate drink, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, popsicles, and more.
