Inequality is a major issue in the United States for a number of reasons. While some people point out that America is the land of opportunity, others, instead, point out that major gap between higher earning groups and those that are marginalized and not given the same kind of return for the amount of work that they do. “Issues of economic inequality have pushed their way back into the national and global conversation – from Pope Francis and Sen. Bernie Sanders to Thomas Piketty and ongoing debates about raising the minimum wage” (Desilver, 2012). Today, we have a large group of people living below the poverty line while the top 1% continues to get richer and richer for little to no extra work or cost incurred.
