As a youngster, I spent many summers visiting my parents’ home country of Ecuador. While my parents’ beloved homeland was full of beautiful vistas, fantastic people and amazing food, I also realized very early that Ecuador lacked many of the financial resources I grew up accustomed to as an American. Those summer vacations in Ecuador were the first sparks for a curiosity that I still carry with me today: what roles does economics and money play in our society and in the world in general? To help me answer this question, while applying to colleges, I researched and focused on schools that had the best programs in economics and finance. As a senior in high school, I also enrolled in the Summer Scholars program at Pace University, where I worked with their business program. My first few days in the Summer Program reinforced my fascination with economics and finance. Moreover, I was so intrigued by the Business Cycles and Finance courses that after my summer at Pace, I applied to their undergraduate business program.
