It is the duty of the people to stand up against an unjust government to maintain peace and tranquility within a society. My local community has faced two different problems: corrupt within government and the preservation of youth on Long Island. Recently, Ed Mangano, a County Executive and former legislator in Nassau County, was brought up on charges of federal corruption. He was illegally helping certain restaurants with business deals in return for perks like free vacations and other benefits. When a corrupt leader is in power, it is the responsibility of the people to stand up against acts that are haynes and detrimental to society and pose solutions. Electing well-qualified individuals like Josh will make our society empowered by leaders rather than politicians. Unfortunately, politicians like Mr. Mangano have their own interests in mind before the peoples but we can stop this. Economically, politicians are paid well and the corruption derives from the selfishness within and it is the citizen’s responsibility to elect the right official. In the future, I hope to have more government regulation of officials and frequent ethical evaluations of longtime officials. Furthermore, to solve the migration of Long Island’s youth, we must build affordable housing units to give the younger generations the ability to afford the cost of living on Long Island. Secondly, the development of our downtown areas, preferably around train stations, will stimulate our local economy and produce a more city like atmosphere. With the affirmation of these reforms in government representatives and city planning, we can finally see our beautiful community prosper once again. My society is my home and I hope to do my part in leading reforms, changing Long Island for the
