Eddie Rivera, who was the director of human resources at the Bellagio and Four Seasons hotels, came to talk to our class about the journey through diversity. Mr. Rivera is an overall fascinating man, being born in Puerto Rico and able to speak a total of four different languages, which are English, Spanish, Italian, and French. In 1973 he had gone to Los Angeles with only fifty dollars speaking no English, to follow his dream. Mr. Rivera’s dream was to be doing what he is doing today. Eddie has had an overall huge career, working at several top corporations through out his life. Starting at a Bank of America being a proof operator, Eddie knew he had needed to learn the English language, so he did. After being the Directors of Human Resources for top hotels Mr. Rivera wanted to be something bigger, now being the owner of ER Enterprises. He explains that what we have in common brought us together, and that our differences must keep us together. He does a very good job overall of addressing life skills and lessons, which form who I am as a person today. With Mr. Rivera being a very intelligent man, starting as just a young man in Puerto Rico with a small amount of money to now being an owner of a company, he makes me believe that anything in life is possible as long as you put your mind to it. That even if there are bumps along the road, to continuing to strive and not let anything stop me, will help me grow as a person. With Eddie having his aha moment, which was such a fluke incident, this reminds me to live everyday to its fullest making it the best that it can be.
