The themes are forgiveness, lost dreams, and how children can sometimes be more mature than the adults and parents. Forgiveness is a huge theme in the novel because Jeanette shows that no matter how much her parents put her through, she is able to overcome the hardships and chase her dreams without them. When she eventually accomplishes this, she’s still there to help and care for her parents. She is able to forgive them for everything in the end. The next theme is lost dreams.
Without a theme, a story is just a story with little meaning. To test whether a theme is worthy, the reader should ask whether it teaches a lesson, whether it's revealed through characters and whether it applies to the entire work. The death of Virginia really set the path for his life, she seems to be his inspiration for many of his most famous or best-known pieces of work. Even after his other loves and wives, I feel it all still comes back to her and the impact she had on the notable Poe. Virginia Clemm Poe died January 30, 1847.

Characters Help Establish a Theme Characters are used to help develop a theme and create a more relatable story. In the book, “Out of the Dust” by Karen Hesse, Billie Jo and her father stay strong through the dust bowl and the death of their family members. Billie Jo and daddy, from “Out of the Dust”, helped to develop the theme that when you’re at the end of the rope, tie a knot and hold on because of how they persevere through their hardships. Daddy shows persistence in how he never lets his sadness overcome him. First, even though his wife was gone, he never stopped digging the pond.

In Annabel lee by Edgar Allen Poe the use of his tone words has an overall effect of the mood. He uses all of these connotative tone words to show the loving tone it has. The connotative words he uses are very deep and passionate words about his love to Annabel Lee. Edgar said that she loved him and he loved her. That they thought about nothing else but to love and be loved by one another.

If poetical means, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, “having an imaginative or sensitive emotional style of expression”, then it can be said that death is unpoetical. Death is the end of one’s emotions, and in non-literal terms, death can be the lack of emotions.
