It Is Time to Close the Gap Between Rich and Poor
“Education Gap Grows Between Rich and Poor, Studies Say,” by Sabrina Tavernise, focuses on the growing educational gap that she believes is caused by income. The author is trying to make people more aware of the growing gap that has gone unnoticed for quite some time. She also highlights studies that have concluded results of an increasing divide between children who live in low-income homes versus high income. Tavernise wants to find a solution for the children that are affected, but she also acknowledges that the issue is extremely complex. An issue this article focuses on is that people usually notice the educational gap between races instead incomes. In our book, we can see that income levels effect children’s education because of the school districts they live in. If children live in a low-income area, their schools will not have enough funding to give them a fair and equal education that they deserve. The author wants all children to have access to a good education regardless of their parent’s income which correlates with the Social-Conflict view on the issue.

I definitely agree that there is a huge problem when children are at a disadvantage educationally because their parents do not make enough money. I think that more schools need to do what Vermont did and give equal funding to all schools. If a solution is not found where all children have access to equal educational opportunities, the cycle of poverty will never end. I believe that the key to the future success of Americans is to allow everyone to have a chance to receive a better elementary education which will lead to a higher chance of their success in secondary
