Thousands of Jewish prisoners were killed per day in concentration camps. The way the Nazis succeeded in killing this much Jews was by creating gas chambers and crematoriums. First, in the novel night, Elie Wiesel described how he witnessed dozens of “children being thrown into the flames.” Wiesel was told when he arrived to Auschwitz that “Here, you must work. If you don’t you will go straight to the chimney.
In the book Night by Ellie Wiesel a young boy describes his experiences as a Jew in the concentration camps during World War II. During this time, Wiesel witnessed many horrific acts. Two of these were executions. Though the processes of the executions were similar, the condemned and the Jew’s reactions to the executions differed tremendously. The first execution he describes in his book is one of many that occurred during his time in the camp.
Literary Devices in the Cremation of Sam McGee Literary devices are used to help readers understand an author’s idea. Robert W. Service uses literary devices throughout his poem “The Cremation of Sam McGee.” These devices can be easy to spot or sometimes have to be studied in order to find them. The poem tells about a man who was panning for gold in the Yukon and froze to death in the cold. While his accomplice made a promise to dispose his body no matter the circumstances.
The crematories in the concentration camp serve as factories of death. The big, fiery furnace is where those who do not make the selection are sent. The threat of being sent to the crematory is likened to being sent to the grave. As the prisoners witness the burning of babies, they begin to recite the Kaddish, the prayer for the dead. Elie stated “I don’t know whether, during the history of the Jewish people, men have ever before recited Kaddish for themselves” (Wiesel 33) to indicate how the threat of death was so imminent that the Jews recited the prayer for their own souls.
Living creatures are not immortal, the fact that they are living automatically has death attached to their existence. Death looms over the human population taking many lives every day, not once failing. During the Holocaust, it came in the form of the Nazis, who used concentration camps as their factories of death. By the end of the Holocaust, 11 million were left dead by the Nazis, 6 million of them being Jewish. In the excerpt “Electric Funeral” Klosterman depicted his meaning of villainy through the use of famous people and their already established status. This “villain” is one that would harm others in the process of benefiting themselves while gaining fame and money. Roughly, Klosterman would describe villainy as a gateway to mass media manipulation because the introduction of minimal disobedience can open the door to a greater platform of cyber bullying which allows the capability of using one's core weaknesses against them to turn the outcome in the predecessor's favor. His essays do not follow the detached, unbiased format of formally written papers. Instead, Klosterman inserts expletives into his essays. Klosterman 's essay on stem-cell research addresses a girl named Natalia who can, supposedly, see through walls. He writes, “Not surprisingly, she has no idea how the fuck this happened and doesn’t appreciate that her vodka-soaked doctors are equally clueless” (“The Awe-Inspiring Majesty of Science”). While this line is also sarcastic, Klosterman is able to enhance the humor of the line with profanity.
In Dierdre Sullivan’s powerful essay, ‘Always Go to the Funeral’ she discusses the the importance of going to funerals. Sullivan remarks in her essay that funeral attendance hold an important philosophy, which is do the right thing even if it’s an inconveniance for you. Sullivan explains that these small gestures, like attending a funeral, could have little meaning for us, but could carry a significant importance for someone else. This meaningful message is one we could all relate to, always go to the funeral. Unsolicited or not, fathers give advice.
Not Just a Bowl Beauty is one of the main foci in society today where selfies, beauty enhancement or plastic surgery, celebrities, and the media reign over society—constantly defining what people should aim for in terms of appearance. Appearances are everything to many people rather than inner beauty such as character and values. In turn, this beauty-obsessed world has led to people becoming more shallow, superficial, and unaccepting towards anything besides the “norm.” It is quite ironic to have a “norm” considering how each individual is different and live in different cultures and such. People are not meant to be or look the same neither should they adhere to a certain standard in which someone else has established.
Eddie lived a life full of hurt, help, and happiness. Eddie died unexpectedly yet doing what he does best, helping children. He thought his life was a waste, because all he did was work at Ruby Pier. After he went to heaven and met all 5 people he came to the realization that his life was not a waste.

Neil Postman Rhetorical Analysis Inventions are changing before our eyes and the world does not seem to question what new technology reveals and what its consequences will be. In the future of technology, there are many individuals who see technology as either a sanction or a burden. Many individuals cannot seem to imagine a world with no technology, however, there are many others who argue that humans are becoming too dependent on technology instead of their own observances and cognition. Technology continues to develop and has become affected people’s everyday life. This issue is addressed by an American Critic and an educator by the name Neil Postman.
There are some people in the world that do things for others just to get something in return, and then their are people that just do for others because they are good people. In Walter Dean Myers short story,”Big Joe’s Funeral,” the main character Big Joe cancels his life insurance check and after careful contemplation the idea he decides to have a funeral for himself, while he is still alive. Everyone that knew what Big Joe was doing had contrary opinions to the funeral, but Big Joe had his mind set. At the funeral Big Joe looked like he was deceased and it was very normal; people had good words to say about him and he even had dirt thrown on his coffin. Myers uses Big Joe to deliver his message that respect is that people deserve respect all of the time no matter where you are or what the circumstances.

In the short story, the effect of the place is shown by the town’s nature that is consumed with single minded people. The town has turned into drunks and corrupt people.
In only a couple of decades, technology has imbedded itself into people’s lives, to the point it would be difficult to live without using technology. In Neil Postman’s speech “Informing Ourselves to Death,” he explains how not all technology is being used for what its original purpose was, and how people are starting to drown in the useless information technology gives. Postman also makes the claim, “And therefore, in a sense, we are more naïve than those in the Middle Ages, and more frightened, for we can be made to believe almost anything” (5). Though Postman gave this speech about thirty years ago, this accurately describes modern society. Technology was meant to help people learn and improve their lives, but it has instead increased the naivety of the world.
